𝑫𝑰𝑬 𝑳𝑬𝑵𝑻𝑬 𝑯𝑬𝑻 𝑨𝑨𝑵𝑮𝑬𝑩𝑹𝑬𝑬𝑲, 𝑬𝑵 𝑫𝑰𝑬 𝑮𝑹𝑨𝑺 𝑾𝑬𝑬𝑻 𝑫𝑰𝑻! 🌱🌼
Gereelde reënval het die grond goed deurnat gemaak en, met warmer lentetemperature wat aanbreek, groei die gras en ander plantegroei vinnig regoor Mosselbaai.

Ons Parke-spanne en aangestelde kontrakteurs werk so doeltreffend moontlik deur die munisipale gebied. Kontrakteurs besoek hul toegewese gebiede een keer per maand, volgens die normale onderhoudsprogram.

Ons vra inwoners vriendelik om geduldig te wees terwyl die spanne deur die verskillende woonbuurte werk.

Neem intussen ’n oomblik om die pragtige groen groei en kleurvolle veldblomme te geniet wat saam met die lente verskyn het.

Die gras groei dalk vinnig, maar ons spanne werk hard om by te hou!

Inwoners en besoekers word dringend daaraan herinner dat Diazstrand om veiligheidsredes gesluit bly.

’n Geotegniese ondersoek wat deur Mosselbaai Munisipaliteit aangevra is, het bevind dat gedeeltes van die bestaande duinhelling onstabiel en vatbaar vir verdere plaaslike erosie is weens die waargenome hellingsvorm en grondtoestande.

Die publiek word dringend versoek om:
Nie die geslote strandgebied te betree nie
Weg te bly van die onstabiele duinhelling
Enige blootgestelde infrastruktuur langs die strandduin te vermy
Alle opdragte van Wetstoepassing en Rampbestuur na te kom

’n Moontlike ontruimingsbevel kan uitgereik word indien die aangestelde ingenieurs bepaal dat dit nodig is. Die Munisipaliteit het reeds met geaffekteerde grondeienaars geskakel en gaan voort om die duin noukeurig te monitor.

Dringende maatreëls word ondersoek om die veilige heropening van Diazstrand moontlik te maak. Die strand sal gesluit bly totdat dit veilig geag word.

Die publiek se samewerking is noodsaaklik. Moet asseblief nie versperrings omseil of beperkte gebiede betree nie.

Die Mosselbaai-munisipaliteit kan bevestig dat daar op Vrydag, 4 September 2026 ‘n dringende aansoek gebring is (in die Wes-Kaapse Hooggeregshof) teen die Wes-Kaapse Departement van Omgewingsake en Ontwikkelingsbeplanning.

Die dringende aansoek het ten doel om die munisipaliteit in staat te stel om dringende tussentydse maatreëls te implementeer om die Diazstrand duin te beskerm wat volgens ‘n geotegniese verslag, verkry deur die munisipaliteit, as onstabiel beskou word.
Die aansoek word deur die hof op Vrydag, 11 September 2026 aangehoor.

Die Departement van Omgewingsake en Ontwikkelingsbeplanning (Departement) het egter vandag, 8 September 2026, ‘n kennisgewing van berusting geliasseer wat aandui dat die munisipaliteit se aansoek nie teengestaan word nie en dat hulle berus by die hof se besluit.

Die aansoek word derhalwe Vrydag aangehoor en daar word vertrou dat die hof die regshulp soos versoek deur die munisipaliteit sal toestaan.

Indien die hof die bevel toestaan sal die munisipaliteit onverwyld voortgaan met stabiliseringsmaatreëls ten einde die duin, eiendom, infrastruktuur en lewe te beskerm.

Die munisipaliteit monitor deurlopend die toestand van die duin en sal ná die hofuitspraak dienooreenkomstig met die gemeenskap en geaffekteerde inwoners kommunikeer.

Mossel Bay Municipality confirms that it instituted urgent proceedings in the Western Cape High Court on Friday, 4 September 2026, against the Western Cape Department of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning.

The application seeks an order authorising the Municipality to implement urgent interim protective measures in respect of the Diaz Beach dune, which has been identified as unstable in terms of a geotechnical assessment obtained by the Municipality.

The matter is enrolled for hearing on Friday, 11 September 2026.

The Municipality further confirms that the Department of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning filed a Notice of Abiding on 8 September 2026, indicating that it does not oppose the relief sought by the Municipality and will abide by the decision of the Court.

The application will accordingly proceed on the unopposed roll on 11 September 2026.

Should the Court grant the relief sought, the Municipality will proceed without delay with the implementation of the approved stabilisation measures to mitigate risk and protect the dune, affected properties, public infrastructure, and the safety of persons in the area.

The Municipality continues to monitor the condition of the dune on an ongoing basis and will provide further communication to affected residents and the broader community following the Court's determination of the matter.

Het u gesoek na 'n lekker uitstappie vir die komende week? Van Maandag af is toegang vir dagbesoekers gratis by sommige Sanparke. Naaste aan Mosselbaai is die Wildernisgedeelte van die Garden Route Nasionale Park met die bekende groot boom, lieflike mere, riviere, digte inheemse woude en riviermondings en dagstaproetes.
In die teenoorgestelde rigting is die bekende Bontebokpark met die lieflikste fynbos en riviervistas. Dié park is sowat 'n anderhalfuur se ry, rigting Swellendam. met heelwat bontebok en zebra te sien - ideale kuierplek vir 'n piekniek, wildsbesigtiging en 'n rustige omgewing.

Looking for a nice trip for the coming week? From Monday, entry for day visitors is free at some SANParks. Closest to Mossel Bay is the Wilderness section of the Garden Route National Park with the famous big tree, lovely lakes, rivers, dense indigenous forests and estuaries and day hikes.
In the opposite direction is the famous Bontebok Park with the most beautiful fynbos and river vistas. This park is about an hour and a half drive in the direction of Swellendam. With lots of bontebok and zebra to see- an ideal place for a picnic, game viewing, and a peaceful environment.

Its name literally means "place of sanctuary" in Setswana, and it earns it. Tucked into the Waterberg mountains, Marakele National Park is home to the largest breeding colony of Cape vultures on Earth.
