W.H. Gunlocke Chair

A remarkable piece of American furniture history.

This antique oak swivel chair was manufactured by the W.H. Gunlocke Chair Company, one of America’s most respected early office-furniture makers.

The chair features beautifully figured oak, a sculptural curved-back frame, original patterned upholstery, and an impressive cast-iron adjustable swivel mechanism.

What I particularly love is the combination of craftsmanship and engineering. The hand-operated height adjustment, heavy cast hardware, and beautifully shaped oak pedestal are reminders of a time when even functional office furniture was built to last — and built beautifully.

A wonderful example of early American office furniture where craftsmanship, utility, and design come together.
