Fact that I've worked for a large chain. They've got a higher turnover staff and the training can be quite minimal. That's just what I've found and been told. So many of my customers tell me that they've been somewhere and the person didn't seem interested. And I think you'll get that. I think you do have people who think well they'll not be buying so I'm not going to give them my time or anything like that and whether that's because they're on commission, whether that's because I'm getting pressure from head office. or whether it's because they're just no confident in their own knowledge of beds, which I think a lot of time that's the case. Here, you've got long standing staff members we really know all beds, we've seen it all, we've done it all. We go on frequent factory visits so we know where we actually see where the beds coming from. We actually watch the springs getting made. We get to know the people who are making them even. We're really embroiled or intertwined with the whole process of the bed being manufactured and coming into the shop floor. We enjoy when a new bed does come on the short floor. We enjoy learning about it. We enjoy hearing all just our colleagues feedback about it. I think that enthusiasm really is what sets us apart. Enthusiasm, product knowledge, the fact that we really do want to see happy customers.

At The Bed Shop, our values here are effort, integrity, professionalism and honesty. And we live those values we do. I mean, we've got all long serving staff here. It's not a high turnover of staff we've been here. The most recent staff been here 15 years. And we do feel part of the community, Edinburgh is our home, we want to get it right. There's nothing we love seeing more than a review of any sort coming through saying how enjoyable the experience was for a customer. We love that. We all see those reviews and we read that and then if they've mentioned someone specifically that person gets told and it puts a spring in our step. And the big difference is that as I said here we are our own head office. We're not, we don't have someone just you know pushing a target on us or you know you have to make this much money this week. Not at all. I mean we're not even on commission. We want to get the right mattress for that right person. Because if you don't you're going to have an unhappy the customer, and that means something to us.

This shop is a family business. It started in 1978. We were around on Leith Walk, very famous thoroughfare in Edinburgh. We were a very famous shop. We took up three, well, over the years we expanded and took up eventually three different buildings. And we were a bright orange shop and we were just so well-known and still are. Everyone bought a bed from us at some point, everyone's granny's recommended us at some point. And we see ourselves as a bit of a landmark. We certainly were on Leith Walk. And a bit of an institution you could say. We feel really part of the community, and even though Edinburgh is now it's getting bigger. It's evolving. We still feel very much a part of a kind of community here at The Bed Shop.
