Are you passionate about physics research and education in Denmark?
Do you want to help shape the future of the Danish Physical Society (DFS) and represent physicists nationally and internationally?

The DFS Board election is now open for nominations.

We’re looking for engaged members who want to strengthen the voice of physics in Denmark and contribute to our community.

We are excited to announce that Professor Jens Kehlet Nørskov from DTU Physics will be a keynote speaker at the DFS Annual Meeting 2025, hosted at Danmarks Tekniske Universitet - DTU on May 14–15.

We are pleased to welcome Associate Professor Morten Kjærgaard from the NNF Quantum Computing Programme (NQCP) and Bohr Institutet as a keynote speaker at the DFS Annual Meeting 2025, taking place May 14–15 at Danmarks Tekniske Universitet - DTU.

Morten Kjærgaard will deliver the after-dinner talk on May 14 from 20:00–21:00, titled: “Fault-tolerant Quantum Computing — NQCP’s Mission to the Frontiers of Quantum Information Science.”

This keynote offers a glimpse into how researchers at NQCP, a major initiative supported by the Novo Nordisk Foundation, are working to advance the frontiers of quantum information science — with a focus on building scalable, fault-tolerant quantum computers.

We’re delighted to announce that Professor Louise Sandberg Sørensen from DTU Space will be one of the keynote speakers at the DFS Annual Meeting 2025, taking place May 14–15 at Danmarks Tekniske Universitet - DTU.

She will open the meeting with her talk, “When the Ice Disappears: Climate Change Seen from Satellites,” on May 14 at 9:20 in Demant Hall. This keynote will offer valuable insight into how satellite data helps us understand the impact of climate change — a topic of growing urgency and importance.

Join us at the DFS Annual Meeting on May 14th and 15th at Danmarks Tekniske Universitet - DTU!

Registration is open until April 11th and Abstracts are due on the same date.

As a section of Dansk Fysisk Selskab (Danish Physical Society), KIF will actively participate in the meeting which is organized in partnership with DTU Physics.

The KIF Prize 2025 winner will be announced during the event, and the prize winner will be invited to give a plenary presentation on May 15th at 15:00 in Demant Hall. See the Call for Nominations on our website - and please note the NOMINATION DEADLINE is April 7th, 2025, at 12:00 noon!

KIF will offer several STUDENT GRANTS to support participation in the meeting! The grant covers the meeting fee and, for students traveling from outside the Greater Copenhagen area, some travel expenses. To be eligible, applicants must be members of both KIF and DFS (student membership of DFS is 200 DKK per year). To apply, send us a short email on [email protected].

For young researchers and students, the annual meeting is an excellent opportunity to present their work. We encourage interested participants to submit an abstract for a short oral presentation or poster. Submissions are welcome from all fields of physics. Cash prizes will be awarded for the best poster presentations, and winners will be featured on social media and in KVANT.

NOMINATE YOUR CANDIDATE FOR THE KIF PRIZE 2025 🏆

Deadline for nominations is April 7th, 2025, at 12:00 CET (noon)!

⭐What is the KIF prize?
The KIF Prize is awarded annually to raise awareness about the significance of women in physics. The prize aims to recognize a person with a background in the physical sciences (physics and engineering) as a role model, whether they work in research, industry, the public sector, teaching, or similar.

⭐Who can be nominated?
Anyone who represents a minority in physics, has a background in the physical sciences, and is considered a role model for women and other gender minorities in the physical sciences. The candidate must either be a Danish citizen or residing and/or employed in Denmark. If applicable: At the time of nomination, the candidate must be at the pre-associate professor level.

⭐How do I nominate someone?
Write a motivation letter and enclose the CV of the candidate. The motivation letter should emphasize the reasons the candidate is considered a role model for women and other minorities in the physical sciences and could include professional achievements, dissemination and outreach efforts, volunteer work within the STEM community, etc.

🌟 Happy International Day of Women and Girls in Science! 🌟

This date was adopted by the UN General Assembly in 2015 as a day to celebrate the achievements of women in science and to promote full and equal participation in STEM for women and girls.

Each year, UNESCO and UN Women select a focus for the day, and this year it is “Unpacking STEM Careers: Her Voice in Science”. 📣

🎉 The DFS Annual meeting meeting will be held May 14th -15th, 2025. 🎉

We are excited to present Alexander Huck as chair for the session Quantum Sensing. Alexander is Assoc. Prof., PhD ,affiliated with Center for Macroscopic Quantum States (bigQ), DTU Physics.

His words on what to expect in his session: "Quantum sensors utilize the unique properties of quantum physics, superposition and entanglement, and promise the detection of physical parameters with unprecedented sensitivity and resolution. This session will address recent developments in the field of quantum sensing, spanning from fundamental concepts to application of quantum sensors in the life and bio-medical sciences."

2025 is the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology and this years annual meeting will have several exciting presentations focused on the latest developments in this rapidly growing field. The annual meeting is also the pivotal annual event for physicists in Denmark. Between 150 and 200 physicists and physics students from all over Denmark will meet to present and learn about the current state of research within all branches of physics research in Denmark.

The DFS Annual meeting meeting will be held May 14th -15th, 2025, in the Demant/Oticon Hall at Danmarks Tekniske Universitet - DTU and is organized in collaboration with DTU Physics.

The DFS Annual Meeting is the pivotal annual event for physicists in Denmark. Between 150 and 200 physicists and physics students from all over Denmark will meet to present and learn about the current state of research within all branches of physics research in Denmark.

2025 is the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology and this years annual meeting, will have several exciting presentations focused on the latest developments in this rapidly growing field.

We are proud to present Caterina Vigliar as chair of the session “Quantum Communications”. She is currently Eurotech Postdoctoral Fellow at DTU Electrical and Photonics Engineering, High-Speed Optical Communications, Centre of Excellence for Silicon Photonics for Optical Communication.

She describes: “This session will bring together experts and leaders from academia, research and industry to share their latest breakthroughs and visions for the future of Quantum Communications, spanning from more fundamental research topics to applied field-trial demonstrations. The main topics covered will be directly linked to the main challenges faced by this field: practical quantum key distribution systems, scalable and practical quantum networks implementation (space, fiber or chip-based systems), decoherence and quantum noise, quantum photonic resources generation, optimization of photon loss in transmission, standardization of infrastructure (hardware and software), co-integration with classical networks, advanced encryption methods. Special focus will be on applications beyond quantum key distribution, e.g. quantum repeaters developments, entanglement distribution and error-correction."
