It is a tool dispersal event with brand new tools, barely used tools, some really good tools, antique tools, and some which are no good except for parts. Lots of accessories. Casters, padlocks, Stihl chainsaw, almost new DeWalt battery operated mower, ShopVac, two collector's items Bear archery bows, cast iron cook ware, drawer slides, and lots of other stuff. More to come. Everything is for sale; some things are free. Saturday 8 AM-Noon, 1446 Sun Valley Lane, San Angelo.

Several years ago, I made preparations for a traditional woodworking class through a state grant. I bought some really neat tools for my two students, but multiple factors intervened and the class did not make and the two sets of brand new hand tools are still stashed away. It is time to move them.

Over the years I've collected a wide variety of tools and moved on from them as my work changed. It is time to move a bunch of them.

On Saturday, April 18, from 8 AM-12 PM at my shop and barn, I will host a show and tell event and these tools will be available for purchase. Absolutely no advance peek or purchase is available; you'll have to come April 18.

Two examples are shown, but there will be lots of interesting and useful items out on my tables that you might want to take home.

Well, that’s interesting! It happens to be a molding form to create some legs to go underneath a coffee table top. Certainly it is out of the ordinary, but over the next month it will take on an identity of its own.

About a week ago I delivered this massive pecan tabletop to a home near Fredericksburg. Of course, an equally massive cast iron base went with it. 2 ⅛" thick by 58" wide by 114" length. It was perfect in a gorgeous home which appeared to have been designed around the table. The clients and I were very happy!

Since then I've been scrambling to try to wrap up some smaller projects before my double hand surgery tomorrow (Monday) morning. Following surgery, I plan to take 4-6 weeks off to let the hand heal, my body to take a break (It's been an intensely busy year), do some design work for upcoming projects, and write my third Snippets.

I’ve only got 27 charcuterie/cutting boards left until I go into my next “scrap management “ endeavor this coming spring. Prices range from $50 to $400. Several hundred “Beautiful Scraps” will emerge then, but nothing new gets built until then. I’ve also got 7 sets of coasters in pecan, mesquite, and ash and two little treasure boxes, one made by me to show the grandkids how and one of the 20 left which they built. If you’re looking for a unique gift, I’ve got them, but they are going fast. Message me; come by and take a peek. We could also do a FaceTime!

I realize this is somewhat repetitious, but here are more pictures of a Greene & Gruene console I delivered yesterday. The story of Greene & Gruene is that it is a style I created myself and it speaks with a decided Texas accent while also paying homage to a style of furniture I greatly admire ( Greene and Greene). Mine uses Texas woods - mesquite and Texas ebony - and the tapered lines of the legs are inspired by the windmill towers, oil derricks, and wind turbine towers which dot our land. The skirts on this table are inspired by the majestic sweeps of a longhorn’s horns. The lower
rails are flat on top and slightly curved on the bottom, a reflection of the Llano Estacado before the arrival of European man. It is the largest flat land surface on the earth and was so vast and empty before buildings and trees arrived that one could almost imagine the curvature of the earth.

Nothing going on over here in the woodshop. Ha! Finished this Greene & Gruene (my own style with a decided Texas accent, rich with Texas influenced lines) project last night; I'll deliver it next week to a very patient and happy client. I believe it is exactly what she wanted, which is how I like create. That console tabletop is a gorgeous piece of mesquite.

The Texas Furniture Makers Show in Kerrville at the Kerr Arts and Cultural Center is now open and will be until December 12. Admission is free. The reception and awards ceremony is Saturday, November 8, 5:30 - 9 PM. Every day presents a great opportunity to see and purchase furniture; the reception and awards evening presents a great opportunity to meet and visit with many of the artists coming from all over Texas. For us furniture makers, it is a joyous reunion. About 50 artists have entered their work, all of which is for sale.
I am fortunate. The pieces I planned for the show were unfinished, but I was allowed to submit two other projects instead. Each is an entry/sofa table or console - whatever you want to call them - which represents a collaboration between Bill Bowman, a master hand forged steel artist from the Fredericksburg area, and some of my mesquite woodwork. My contribution to the effort is very nice; his is exquisite!
