Not sure how many stools will fit at your counter? Start with this simple guideline:

Measure the length of your counter in feet, then divide by two. The result is the approximate number of stools you’ll need.

For example, an 8-foot counter will typically accommodate four stools. Allowing about 2 feet, or 24 inches, of counter space per stool provides comfortable seating in most cases.

Keep in mind that wider stools or stools with arms may require additional room.

Before choosing a stool, make sure the seat height is right for your space.

Measure from the floor to the underside of your table, counter, or bar. For comfortable legroom, allow approximately 10–12 inches between the seat and the surface.
