Pumpkins, Mismatched Shoes, and a Little Reminder of Why I Love What I Do!

We had our Pumpkin Carving and Decorating Day, and one thing is for sure—there is absolutely NO wrong way to decorate a pumpkin when it’s YOUR creation! Each one was unique, and I loved seeing everyone’s personalities shine through!

What really surprised me was hearing so many of our seniors say they had NEVER carved a pumpkin before! 🥹❤️ Something that seems so simple to some of us was a brand-new experience for so many of them! Just goes to show you’re never too old for a first!

A huge THANK YOU to Walmart for providing our pumpkins and helping make today possible! 🧡

👟 It was also Mismatched Shoe Day! 😂 Because why not?! Sometimes it’s the simplest, silliest things that bring the biggest smiles!

📣 We squeezed in some cheer practice, too! They have definitely got some spirit, and I can’t wait to see it all come together!

November calendars were handed out!
I don’t know where October went, but here we are planning for another busy month!

On a more personal note, I received the sweetest surprise today—a little “just because” card that meant more to me than the ones who gave it will probably ever realize.
Sometimes I silently question myself. Am I doing enough? Am I getting everything done that needs to be done? And most importantly, do these seniors truly know how much I care about them? Our days are busy, and sometimes it feels like we’re running from the minute we start until the minute we finish, just trying to stay ahead of everything. But then something as simple as that little card comes along and reminds me that it’s not always about how much we get done, but about the difference we’re making along the way. I hope they know how much they mean to me, because they certainly have a way of reminding me why I love what I do.

We will be leaving at 8:30 AM!

Don’t have a costume? THAT’S OKAY! 😂 Sheila and I have a few ideas up our sleeves! Just come as yourself, and we’ll fix ya right up!!

I can’t wait to see what kind of fun and laughs tomorrow brings!

There’s never a dull moment with this bunch, and I wouldn’t have it any other way! 🧡🎃❤️

🎃 A Little Hocus Pocus & A Whole Lot of Appreciation! 🚓🚒🚑❤️

What a wonderful and busy day our seniors had today!

We started our morning with a trip to the Perry County Public Library, where our seniors enjoyed watching Hocus Pocus on the big screen! A huge shoutout and thank you to the library for allowing us to use the auditorium room! We truly appreciate your kindness and hospitality!

We headed out into the community to deliver the special posters our seniors made last week in honor of National First Responders Day! Vivian came along with us, she saw a lot of familiar faces, thanks for riding along with us!

We made stops at:

Kentucky State Police Post
Hazard City Police Department
Ambulance Service
Hazard Fire Department — where the only one we managed to find was the practice dummy!
Perry County Sheriff’s Office

We wanted to take a little time to show our appreciation to the brave men and women who serve and protect our communities every single day.

To ALL of our first responders, THANK YOU! ❤️ Your dedication, sacrifices, courage, and willingness to answer the call never go unnoticed. We are so grateful for each and every one of you!

Our seniors enjoyed getting out, sharing smiles, and spreading a little appreciation throughout our community!

🎃 Tomorrow is PUMPKIN CARVING DAY! We can’t wait to see what creative masterpieces our seniors come up with!

🍂 What a Fun and Busy Two Days at the Perry County Senior Center! 🍂

We’ve had a wonderful start to our week, full of learning, laughter, creativity, and stepping outside our comfort zones!

On Monday, we welcomed Sherrie with the
Perry County Health Department for an educational CPR class and demonstration! We also had Lori back from UK Extension for another round of Wits Workout, keeping those minds sharp and thinking!

Today, Chad with Robinson Insurance Solutions stopped by to answer questions about Medicare and supplemental insurance. Our seniors always enjoy visiting and talking with him! We also welcomed Sam Collin’s for painting time, where everyone got creative painting pumpkins and jack-o’-lanterns!
It was wonderful to have Mona back with us this week, we’ve missed her more than she knows!
Friday will wrap up collecting socks so be sure to get them so we can win our challenge!! It goes to wonderful cause!

📣 And now for our cheerleading adventures! 📣

Things are getting even more exciting now that we’ve added POM-POMS! 💕 Sheila and I are so excited about our cheer and competing, and we sure hope our seniors stick with us as we give this a try for the first time together!

I’ll admit, stepping outside my own comfort zone to help with cheer has made me a little nervous! Thankfully, Sheila has been staying after everyone leaves to practice with me!!

But what makes me the proudest is watching our seniors jump right in, try something new, and step outside their own comfort zones without hesitation! Their courage, enthusiasm, and willingness to have fun inspire me more than they know. They absolutely ROCK! 📣

And the fun isn’t slowing down!

We have some fun-filled days ahead and another busy week coming up!

I’m so proud of our seniors and so thankful for everyone who helps make our center a place full of friendship, laughter, learning, and new adventures! ❤️🍁

Who says getting older means you have to stop trying new things? Not our bunch!! 💕

🍿🎃 Popcorn, Pop & BOO! 👻🎬

It was a fun Friday at the Hazard Perry Senior Center! We enjoyed some popcorn, pop, and a little Halloween fun while watching Boo! A Madea Halloween! 😂🎃

We also welcomed UK AgeWell back today as they wrapped up their blood pressure measurements and wellness program! They also helped our seniors complete an online survey. We appreciate the time, care, and dedication they put into helping our seniors stay healthy and informed! ❤️

After a delicious lunch, we continued making plans for another busy and exciting week ahead!

A Little Halloween Fun, Lots of Laughs, and Some Special Moments at the Hazard Perry Senior Center!

Today we decided to step outside our comfort zones and try our hands at crocheting some Halloween items! 😂 Let’s just say it was a disaster for the most part! 🤣 But that’s what makes trying new things so much fun! We laughed, we struggled, and we gave it our best shot! Not everything has to turn out perfect to be worth doing! ❤️

📣💛Cheer practice is going WONDERFULLY!! Our seniors are really getting into it, and we couldn’t be more excited! Just wait until you see what they’ve been working on! 🎉

🧦 THE SOCK BATTLE IS STILL ON!! Our collection keeps growing, and we have ONE MORE WEEK to try to beat Breathitt County! Come on, Perry County, let’s show them what we’ve got! Every pair counts, and it’s all going toward a wonderful cause!

💕 And the absolute highlight of our day… OUR BEAUTIFUL NORMA CAME TO VISIT!! 💕

Norma is continuing to heal from her injuries, and we were so happy to have her stop by today! Seeing that beautiful smiling face and hearing her voice back inside our center meant more than words can express! 🥹❤️

Norma, you are loved more than you will ever know! Your presence has been missed, and today was such a sweet reminder of how much our senior center truly is a family. We are so thankful for every step you take toward healing, and we cannot wait to have you back with us! ❤️

Some days we accomplish a lot, some days we just make a mess trying something new, but every day we make memories together! 🥰
