A small alcove without a clear purpose became useful storage. We replaced a window with an exterior door and added pantry cabinets on either side, supplementing the kitchen’s storage while keeping the floating shelves in place. When a 36-inch vanity and 24-inch medicine cabinet leave little room for sconces, the mirror can do more. In this bathroom, a lit mirror illuminates the perimeter, lights the face effectively, and provides storage inside. There was not much space to work with when this home’s layout changed, so we made the footprint do more. A step-in pantry fits behind custom sliding doors, adding storage without taking over the room. The doors keep the pantry practical when open and visually quiet when closed. 📍 Rumford, RI

Old metal cabinets. Retro, but not in an exciting way. A kitchen that just didn’t function.
So we flipped the floor plan. The kitchen took over the dining room and a closet, the dining room moved to where the kitchen was, and the butler’s pantry now lives where a closet used to be.
The homeowner loves an English-style kitchen with old-world charm, so we went inset all the way: sage green cabinetry, brass cup pulls, a farmhouse sink. We took it back a few decades and built something timeless instead of a 70s kitchen that never worked.
Good design starts with what the space is asking for. 🌿

built in 1947. reimagined as a gathering place.

a second home for a grown family, made for everyone to come together. the old house was all small rooms, so we opened the walls to the kitchen, carried a new beam on a post, and copied the woodwork from another beam in the house so it all feels original.

now you can walk a full circle through the house. room to cook, room to gather, and no one in anyone’s way.
