I’m working on something new at Sparks Splinter Shop that I’m pretty excited about.
I’m putting together a series of small, hands-on woodworking classes where people can come into the shop, learn how furniture is actually built, and leave with something they built themselves.
The classes will be structured in different levels, starting with beginner-friendly projects and working up into more advanced furniture and cabinetmaking.
The first series will be based around a matching five-piece furniture collection I designed:
* End tables
* Coffee table
* Entry table
* TV stand / entertainment center
The beginner classes will use prepared parts so students can focus on learning furniture construction, assembly, joinery, squaring, sanding, finishing, and how the whole process works without being overwhelmed by machinery on day one.
As students progress, the classes will become more hands-on with layout, cutting, milling, joinery, tool use, and eventually full furniture and cabinet construction.
The TV stand will be one of the most advanced classes because it combines both furniture-building and cabinetmaking skills.
Classes will be:
* Small groups
* Hands-on
* Safety focused
* Beginner friendly
* One-day and two-day formats
* Tools and materials provided
* Designed so you leave with a finished project
You won’t need a shop full of tools or years of experience. The whole idea is to give people a place to learn, build confidence, understand the process, and actually create something they’re proud to take home.
