“The wool is our passion”

Meet Andrew Sutherland from Ahuriri Downs Station, one of our ZQ growers. Andrew is the fourth generation to farm on the station.

Like many of our ZQ growers, Andrew is also a professional wool classer, meaning that by touch he can determine the micron and quality of the wool fibre.

After each fleece is shorn, he inspects it for characteristics like length, thickness, colour, and strength, grouping them into uniform lines, before pressing them into bales.

Merino wool is an all-season hero because it helps regulate your body temperature. It can absorb and release heat, buffering you against changing conditions. When you get wet, it releases warmth to keep you from getting chilled, and on a hot day, it moves moisture away from your skin to help you cool down naturally.

Our brand partner, , has a range of 100% merino wool clothing that is perfect for all adventures, no matter the season.🐑 🌞 ❄

Merino wool is naturally great at fighting odours. It traps smelly molecules within its fibres, so they can be easily washed away.

The Wool Research Organisation of New Zealand (WRONZ) conducted a study where a panel of human "noses" compared the effect of different fibre types on odour. The science-backed sniff test proved that wool socks worn during exercise were significantly less stinky than socks made from other materials.

Our brand partner, , was founded by two ski instructors seeking a sock that would enable them to ski longer without getting cold toes. 🧦 Smartwool was the first outdoor company to create performance merino wool ski socks, which not only kept their toes warm, but also didn't smell bad after a day on the slopes.♥🐑

Merino wool is super resilient thanks to its natural, wavy structure. It can be bent an incredible 30,000 times without breaking. 💪

Our brand partner, 's founder Lucas Smith, saw this potential and decided to shake up the bandage industry. Instead of plastic, he's making plasters from merino wool, so you get a naturally better healing process with a fabric that’s also incredibly soft and breathable.🐑

Merino wool is expert-level at managing moisture. Its unique fibres have a water-repelling exterior and a water-loving interior, which is key to keeping you comfortable. It pulls moisture vapour away from your skin, helping your body cool down naturally. Best of all, merino can absorb a huge amount of moisture – over a third of its weight – without ever feeling damp. 💦

Our brand partner, Aclima, was founded in 1939 in Drammen, Norway near the river Dammenselva. Originally making felt wool soles, Aclima now produces a range of high-performing wool products to keep you comfortable year-round.
