Designed by Tom Dixon in 1988, the S-Chair has lost none of its impact. More than three decades on, its sinuous, sculptural silhouette still feels as bold and unconventional as ever.
Its beginnings, however, were surprisingly simple. Dixon recalls sketching “a small doodle of a chicken” and thinking he could make a chair from it. Those bird-like lines evolved into the S-Chair, which went into production with Cappellini in 1991.
A playful idea turned enduring design icon.
