We’re incredibly proud to share that Majangdong 1946 has received the Luminance Award at the 2026 NZ Design Awards: Interior

It’s an honour to have our work recognised alongside so many outstanding projects.

To hear the jury describe the lighting as “both cinematic and pragmatic,” creating “a constantly changing and energetic atmosphere,” was especially rewarding, as it perfectly captured the design intent behind the project.

Thank you to everyone who believed in the vision and helped bring this project to life.

We designed the interior for the Haha Chicken store in Wellington, using bold red tones and warm wood as the main palette to create a strong, energetic atmosphere.

Soft curved line details were added to balance the intensity and bring a more welcoming, fluid feel to the space.

Touches of blue were introduced selectively as accent points to add contrast and visual interest.

Yes — we also design and build spaces for kids in New Zealand.

Back in 2023, we had the chance to work on the library at Selwyn Ridge School in Tauranga.
This building sits right at the heart of the school, so we approached it as a symbolic and meaningful space rather than just a library.

The concept was inspired by the school’s identity: three birds of different colours coming together around one large tree.

That idea became the foundation of the design — a central “tree” where children can gather, read, explore, and play together.

A space made to spark imagination, connection, and quiet moments of discovery.

Designed Majangdong Butchery Korean BBQ in Auckland.
An industrial shell of exposed, tangled ducts, layered with subtle Korean touches.

A large-scale space built around small moments, details that reveal themselves slowly.
The restaurant is split into two zones: one calm and grounded, the other slick and sharp.

Red butcher-style lighting brings focus to the meat.
The main wall’s oversized fan and neon signage are composed like a still from a noir film.
Moody. Cinematic. Intentional.
