The last in our collection of room sets curated with American heritage-led designers, Sister Parish Design, whose covetable floral wallpaper, โBreakfast in Bedโ, lends a beguiling backdrop to our antiques. Anchoring the room, is a handsome late 18th century French console table in the Louis XVI manner. Upon it stands a substantial clear-glass stoppered jar of classic laboratory form, with a rounded body, tall cylindrical neck and broad flared foot.
A framed pair of 19th century engravings of tumbling waterfalls hangs alongside a striking pair of late 19th century French carved boiserie mirror panels, conceived originally as part of a grander architectural scheme. Each panel centres on an oval mirror plate held within beaded moulding and a square painted surround, its corners richly carved with acanthus and foliate ornament in the manner of late 18th and 19th century French decorative woodwork.
Offering a perfect place to sit and contemplate, an elegantly refined mid 19th century two seat canapรฉ, its frame carved and gilded throughout, poised on subtle cabriole legs and upholstered in a fresh grass-green linen. Beside it, a Kingston armchair, upholstered in Sister Parishโs Seville Stripe in โBlue Figโ, brings easy charm and versatility, with neat, classic Howard-style arms, generously plumped cushions and tapered oak legs. Every Lorfords Contemporary piece, sustainably handcrafted by master upholsterers in our Cotswold workshop.
Before it, a 1960s French Lucite and glass coffee table offers a chance to curate beneath its sliding top: here, a collection of 19th century French confit pots in buttery yellow and creamy white terracotta, makes for a fun installation, joined by a pair of French bistro glasses, patiently awaiting a cold glass of Provenรงal w**e.
