HOUSE RULES ~ a new monthly series about the little things I believe add joy to a home.
Not decorating rules. Just the ones I seem to live by.
Rule No.1: Let kids celebrate their treasures.
Children are born collectors. Every walk ends with pockets full of stones, feathers and wonderfully important twigs.
This is our memory shelf. It was my display shelf too, bought in France in the 1990s, and now it’s filled with beach shells, handmade crafts, tiny animals and little achievements. Every treasure holds a day, a feeling or an adventure.
I love that something which once held my childhood treasures is now holding theirs. I hope they’ll remember this shelf just as vividly as the wallpaper on their bedroom walls.
Don’t tidy away the magic too soon.
What tiny treasure would have lived on your shelf as a child?
