Orientation triangle drawn on each piece. Keeping the grain running naturally is important I think. Saw set to height. Fence set for position and length. Fine blade installed. The outer wings are cut first. As a result the centre section is cut on the correct angle on both sides. The wings are flipped over and run through a second time to get the desired angle and final width. Dedicated push sticks and holding devices are employed to make the work safe and accurate. Mortises cut. Assembly can happen tomorrow.

This lot came together well. Yep, I made a mistake and now I have three to rework. No big deal. They will certainly be one offs, so to speak. Hearts marked out and cut. About 50 in this lot. Last shot is the hearts I have on hand. Red Cedar and Jarrah.

7 in this lot. The adjustments to jigging and process look good. I will assemble these tomorrow. I will probably offer two species for these. Silky Oak and Red Cedar. Look out for my sale starting 1 November.

The next step in the production design phase. One more small one in Qld Maple to check and test set up. Rosewood and Silky Oak to make a larger bowl. More documenting the process. Also adjusted the mortising jig I quickly made the other day. A minor error has been rectified and improvements made to increase accuracy and efficiency.

Edge curves done and sanded. I’m fairly happy with the result so far. I can see areas that need improvement but nothing that cannot be managed. I have some rosewood and silky oak that is a little wider for a finished size of 250mm. These are 180. Next weeks project. More time recording. I am@also expecting a parcel this week with some marking equipment to assist. Back to the paperwork for me. The tax office is on my heels.

Can you see the mistake that isn’t a mistake? Next is marking out the curve. I cut out this template with a set of duckbill snips. Not everything needs to be CNC. Allowances can be made in layout if more accuracy is needed. The template material I scavenged from the back of a broken led panel light. Point 3mm and with a durable coating. I hate waste and like to get the best out of things.

This is where I am at with this simple bowl. Currently the wall thickness is 9mm. That is about as thin as is practical given the tenons are perpendicular to a 7 degree narrow edge. I may do the experiment in 8mm. I also should draw that first.

Almost works. Very very close. There is a minor error that I will find and rectify before proceeding. This will be a quite strong piece that will take the knocks of life. Also it is 3mm Over square. I can rectify that as well. The compound angles are a bit fun. Now to my much neglected admin for the rest of the day.

These are ready to be cut up again for the second glue up. I need to make a new fixture for my Festool domino machine to create the next lot of mortises. Some trickery will be required. The last shot is of a mistake. See, I’m human. Not a complete loss. I’ll fill those and carry on. That one will become one of mine or will be gifted to one of my product testers. The Qld Maple one in the middle shot has some nice grain patterns.
