Gotta say, it's been awhile, and I'm thrilled to reveal a few 'quick concept sketches' of a fearless and sophisticated, new contemporary furniture design that's been floating around in my head for awhile. This pair of large wall cabinets are unapologetic statement pieces, with a rebellious edge that celebrate and embody the timeless elegance of 18th century Rococo style... reimagined with the unexpected, contrasting combination of rubber and stainless steel. I call this intense, colourful contemporary furniture design 'The Beauty Within' (although I have to admit, I'm not sure about the name.) Anyway, I think this pair of unique, witty wall cabinets would be a commanding addition to any curated contemporary art collection. With a vibrant coloured, tough rubber exterior, that appears to have been chiseled away by hand, from a single massive block. Like a marble statue, with a rough, chunky, gouged pattern at the bottom and a more complete, graceful finish at the top, revealing a blend of harmonious floral 'half relief' still life carvings. The matching wall cabinets are actually a deceptive reflection of each other, (depending on how they are placed next to each other) with one side a blank unfinished smooth surface waiting for the addition of a refined floral still life design, set against chunky parts waiting to be chiseled away, while the other side is completed with a carved 'half relief' floral still life design... to match the carved 'half relief' still life floral design on the front of each top shaped cabinet door. There are two locked drawers, with a curled bottom edge, set below the locked front cabinet doors. There is a very basic, contrast stainless steel frame added along the bottom edge of the rubber cabinet, (that helps protect the base of the rubber cabinet from stains and scratches, whenever floors are cleaned) and a very ornate stainless steel arched pediment, adorned with a shell crest and highlighted by carved 'half relief' foliage with two prominent finials, that embellish the top of the rubber cabinet. (The stainless steel interior surface of each cabinet door is accentuated by the same 'half relief' still life floral design, as shown on the exterior... but an opposite reflection.) The interior of the cabinet, the various shelves, the top shaped cabinet doors and hinges, the various drawers and square pull k***s, the locks and keys are brushed stainless steel... to match the brushed stainless steel on the top and bottom exterior of the rubber cabinet.
The interior and exterior drawers have stainless steel soft close, ball bearing drawer glides and are lined in white silk, (with the 'CMMD' trademark woven into the fabric) to match the white silk tassels attached to each key. The 'CMMD' logo is embossed into the center of the stainless steel surface for each interior bottom drawer... there is also a large hidden shelf set under each bottom drawer, that slides out manually by pulling a small round pull k**b on the front center, (the same small round pull k***s are added on the front center of each small drawer, hidden behind the small square rubber door inside one of the cabinets.) There is a square cabochon crystal gemstone added to the center of each square pull k**b, to match the cabochon gemstone added to each key tassel, (the crystal gemstone is clear/colorless like a diamond... chosen as a neutral colour, that I think works well with the different colored rubber cabinets.)
The daring design of this rubber wall cabinet was obviously inspired by the set of rubber travel trunks, that I posted earlier... and again, the design for those large, vibrant travel trunks was captured while I was dreaming. (I think the dream was inspired by my sister and her adorable, new 'Swiss Mountain Dog' puppy, as she bought a bunch of chew toys and her puppy tore them all to shreds, so she had to buy new chew toys that were much more durable, and it's the indestructible quality of the rubber that I noticed, that will be used for these large wall cabinets too.) The thick, durable, lightweight rubber exterior of each cabinet frame will be impeccably crafted by hand from very large moulds, (made using the lost-wax technique) with separate moulds created for the two front drawers, the two cabinet doors and the small square door inside the cabinet.
Gotta say, I especially like that this innovative contemporary furniture design defies expectations with a kaleidoscope of hues, how it radiates refined elegance through the subtle use of floral accents and emerges as a beacon of creative expression... where meticulous details are distinguished as a testament to 'CMMD' artistry and master craftsmanship. (An iconic statement piece of unparalleled finesse... captivating, with a synergy of technical perfection and an unbounded imagination, defying any preconceived notions of what furniture should look like, with objects that blur the boundaries between the art and design world.)
This contemporary furniture design is sold as a pair... available in a rich spectrum of five vibrant shades, (yellow, violet, green, blue and rose.) With the yellow wall cabinet shown below and the other four colours shown in the comment section. Each colour has a production limit of 20 pairs, for a total of 100 pairs available for this design, (as it is the production limit for all 'CMMD' designs.) Once complete, each cabinet is packaged in a purpose-built wooden crate with padded interiors, ensuring it arrives in pristine condition.
As I mentioned, only a limited production of 100 of each Cary Michael Morris Design will ever be made. (The 2 artist's proofs and 1 prototype will be kept in house/the showroom and are never to be sold... they can only be donated to a charity auction.) With every piece sold, there is included a hardcover book of photographs and a production history, with an informative DVD video, which highlights the journey of 'CMMD' over the years and details the step by step creation of the design process, through production and showroom delivery, with credit shown to the various master craftsmen and artists that worked on it. Along with a personally signed, trademarked 'CMMD' hologram certificate, as proof of provenance... each piece (or set) is also numbered, and then registered when sold.
