📍 A fascinating visit to Athy Co-op Foundry in Co. Kildare, where traditional skills and extraordinary craftsmanship are very much alive.

🔥 There is something remarkable about seeing a craft that has been practised for generations continuing today. Skilled hands, time-honoured techniques and an extraordinary depth of knowledge come together to create and restore beautiful pieces in cast iron, bronze and brass.

🏛️ The tradition of metal casting in the Athy area dates back to the early 1900s, and Athy Co-op Foundry continues to preserve these specialist skills. Their work ranges from bespoke casting and decorative ironwork to the careful reproduction and restoration of historic architectural pieces. This craftsmanship plays an important part in preserving Ireland’s built heritage.

✨ For someone with such an appreciation for traditional craftsmanship, antiques and the skills of the past, it was wonderful to see the process first-hand and meet the people keeping these remarkable skills alive.
