www.reduxwood.com Through strategic partnerships we have secured a supply of rare and exotic hardwoods which for decades have been lost to the world, submerged and forgotten in tropical fresh water lakes. These enormous and ancient standing trees – 300 to 500+ years old – have been preserved intact underwater, during which time the grain, texture and hardness of the wood has undergone a gradual tr

ansformation that can only come about by a slow and natural interaction with the minerals found in fresh water. Hence, it can truly be said that these tropical hardwoods are unique. After successfully logging a concession in Central America, we were presented with the opportunity to work with the 14 comarcas of the Kuna Madugandi tribe. Recovering trees that would otherwise be lost decreases the need to log resources on land. The careful and time-consuming process by which these logs are harvested one at a time does not disturb the natural environment because of the strict environmental controls employed. For instance, the roots of the trees are left untouched at the lake bottom. Even the saws which we use are run with a vegetable oil so as not to pollute the waters. We have chain of custody (CoC) on all species and FSC Certified – the highest environmental certification available.

What happens when you square up a 14 foot live edge slab?

The client has decided to box in the edges and finish this piece with epoxy after a lot of discussion around whether to keep it fully natural or push it in a more architectural direction.

Honestly, we can see both sides.

Huge thanks to the team in Vancouver for finishing this one off and bringing the final vision together.
