❓ Should RV Owners Use Zerk (Grease) Fittings?

Short answer: No—but if you do, do it with caution. We see this all the time—customers with no brake experience add grease through zerk fittings and end up ruining their brakes. We do not recommend relying on them for maintenance and tell customers to resist the urge to use them. When I hear “my buddy does it” or “the manufacturer said I can”— the reality is, just because you can, doesn’t mean you should. Most people haven’t sat in front of hundreds of brake assemblies and seen what happens when overzealous greasing pushes grease straight into the brakes.

⚠️ The risks:
• Overfilling can blow seals
• Grease can leak into brake drums
• Mixing grease types (red & black) can cause it to liquify
• Contaminated brakes = loss of stopping power

🚨 This is one of the most common causes of brake failure we service.

🚫 Best practice:
Zerk fittings are NOT a replacement for pulling hubs and inspecting bearings, seals, and brakes.

💡 When in doubt, have a professional service your bearings—it's cheaper than replacing your brakes (or worse).
