Here's a question the design establishment isn't asking: what happens when you try to replace 430,000,000 metric tons of plastic with 430,000,000 metric tons of mushrooms and seaweed? My new essay asks that question — and a few others the design world would rather not answer.

After so many prototypes and iterations I am finally pleased with my reclining swing chair. A great platform for meditation.

I’ve been developing a fully reclining suspended swing chair for long-dwell public spaces like airports. Using simple mechanics and shifts in body weight, it moves naturally from upright seating into a supported recline or hammock-like rest—no motors or electronics. I’ve just completed the version with an integrated footrest, and it’s genuinely comfortable. A patent application is in progress. Curious to hear reactions—and if this brings to mind any designers or facility managers, feel free to point them my way.
