My Story
I've always been the creative type. Partly because I'm wired that way, partly out of necessity, and partly because I hate spending money on things I can get for free! Over the years, I've filled my home with treasures found at garage sales, Goodwill, and even on the side of the road. I call it "Junk Style". It's pretty amazing to see how a little creativity transforms things. Several years ago, other people started asking me to create items for them as well and Beauty in the Brokenness LLC was born.
I love to create custom pieces for clients, often salvaging something they had almost discarded, or bringing a family heirloom to life for another generation. I’d love to do the same for you! Message me on here, or text me at 234-802-1157 (texting is definitely the faster way to reach me). If you are local, check out my booth at Brother’s Antiques North located at 2768 Pearl Rd in Medina.
The furniture I rescue and paint is all solid wood (unless otherwise noted). Most of it is made in the United States and dates back to the time when skillful expertise mattered more than mass production. You might find a similar LOOK in stores today, but you won’t come close to the quality workmanship of these old treasures! What I do before I list my items: When I get a piece home, the transformation begins. I scrub, sand, and clean through every layer of dirt and grime. But all the scratches and dings - they stay. They are the scars that give a piece its character. They are it’s history. Once fully cleaned, the furniture is hand painted with the highest quality paint. I use Annie Sloan Chalk Paint, Jolie Home, or Fusion Mineral Paint, all of which produce a soft matte finish. I then distress items to create the look of a well-loved, timeworn piece. During the final steps, wax is worked into the paint for protection and buffed to a smooth finish. All the imperfections are highlighted by the wax. In my opinion, they are where the beauty shines the most! Important things to know when you purchase an item from Beauty in the Brokennesss LLC: *Your item will be a one-of-a-kind treasure, handled with utmost care and attention to detail. *Your item will be structurally sound. If there are drawers, they will open and close, hinges will be tight, legs will be secure. You get the idea - it will be fully functional. *Your item will have cosmetic imperfections. They are intentional and part of the style! These may include scratches, chipped paint, areas where the piece has been sanded to bare wood, and other signs of distress. *Your items have a history. The inside of drawers or cabinets will show signs of wear. These will be pictured as well. *Your item will be the exact one pictured in the listing. Please be sure to look at all pics so that you know what you are getting before you place your order. *You have helped rescue something valuable from a landfill! - Yay you!! *You are supporting a small business owner. It’s just me here, working in my garage. Thank you!
