Virtual Workshop: SCULPTURAL PEDESTAL TABLE CONSTRUCTION with Bruce Bradford
Register through the link in our bio or at https://pocosinarts.org/zoom-workshops-wood/
This class will detail the construction of a pedestal table with a sculpted base. This process can be used to make a small occasional table such as an end or coffee table, or for a dining table with either a round or rectangular top.
I will demonstrate making this type of table using common woodworking tools available in well equipped woodworking shops, however I will also discuss how this type of table could be made with just the basic tools of a table saw, jigsaw and a plunge router. In either process there are some necessary router bits that will be required, these will be shown in the materials list. This project required a combination of both 8/4 and 4/4 stock. I will outline this in the materials list for both a small end table and a dining table.
The first class will start with a quick discussion on template construction, I will provide a more detailed discussion of the template required for the table legs in the course materials. This class will cover all the types of joinery required to make the legs and how they are joined to the central hub. In the 2nd class we will review methods for gluing up flat panels for use as table tops and a quick and easy method for cutting a perfect circle for the top. And conclude with a demonstration of the techniques I use for sculpting the table base, and methods for attaching the base to the top.
