Cabinet tip of the day: the style of cabinetry can vary a few ways. Most of it depends on the look you are going for.

Full Overlay / Frameless - with this style, you do not see any cabinet frame at all. This gives you the most space inside your cabinets. This is the most common cabinet style and usually the best priced.

Inset - with this style, you will see the whole cabinet frame. The doors/drawers sit flush with the frame. It give a more farmhouse style look. You do lose space in the drawers and door openings. This is usually the most expensive cabinetry style.

Partial Overlay - this is the old cabinetry style. You will see part of the cabinet frame. Just like inset, you do lose space in the drawers and door openings. You see this style more with pre-fab cabinets.

Cabinet tip of the day: Choosing appliances. When choosing appliances, keep a few things in mind as you shop. Look at energy efficiency, reviews, price, and make sure it will fit in the existing hole. Example, not all refrigerators are the same height.

Look at all the different brands to see which one matches your needs the best.

Will the appliance require a cabinet panel? Not all appliances come stainless steel. Be sure to check that before purchasing.

Look at the colors to see if it will match / flow with your existing cabinets/decor.

I always want to know how easy it is to clean. I don't want a surface that I have to scrub?

Cabinet tip of the day - Decorative Hardware. This is the achilles heel when it comes to the final design of your kitchen/baths.

Do I go with all k***s? or go with all pulls? Maybe I mix the 2 up? If I go with pulls, what size will look best?

Start with the color/finish you want. This will help narrow your choices. Every color is not available for every style of hardware. A lot of our customers look at their faucet and light fixtures to match to.

Then narrow down the style you are wanting. Some can look very traditional while others look more like farm house. Its all about the look you are trying to achieve.

Once you have the color and style down, then you can decide whether to use k***s or pulls or both. A lot of people do put pulls on drawers and k***s on doors. When it comes to sizing the pull, you want to make sure it looks proportionate to the drawer front. If you go to big, it may look over powering. You can use different sizes depending on how wide the drawer front is.

Don't be afraid to ask designers at the hardware stores or your cabinet company for their input.

Cabinet tip of the day: if you are wanting stained cabinets, think about how you would like the wood grain to look. This will help determine what kind of wood species to look into. Example: white oak and hickory have a lot more grain then maple.

Also keep in mind when choosing a stain color. A stain will look different on each kind of wood.

See pictures below. 1. stain color is Wood Smoke on White Oak and Maple. 2. stain color is Carbon on Maple, Hickory, White Oak.
