Hello world, Emily here!

A quick update to this ghost town of a page: Hummingbird has been officially disbanded. However! After much time off I am back up and running, working under my own name in the same space. All upholstery projects you see on this page are my own work, however woodworking is no longer an offering here outside of your basic glue and clamp jobs.

I’ll eventually get around to making my own page, but I’ve been busy busy and in the meantime I know there’s still new folks getting directed to this page, so here’s the deal! The phone number listed on this page is me, you can call me with inquiries or just go right ahead and text me some photos and details if you’re looking for a quote. You can also email me at [email protected]. Facebook messages here will likely not be seen or responded to in any sort of timely fashion. Walk ins are always happily welcomed but my hours are still a bit Wild West so best to call ahead if you’re making a dedicated trip.

So, I made a nice table then set it on fire. Shou sugi ban is an ancient technique for waterproofing and preserving wood. This one took a bit to get just right. Then I sealed it all up with a nice matte/satin finish.

This piece was SO MUCH FUN. Working with this fabric was like a brain massage, drawing in all my focus to a pinpoint and keeping me sane in a not so sane time.

We nicknamed this piece “The Beast” while it was in shop because it sat so deep and weighed about a thousand pounds due to the heavy hardwood frame and about 8 bales of cotton that were packed into it.

Joking aside though - this was an old family piece that had a ton of sentimental value, and was an absolute pleasure to revive and restore in some seriously luxurious, buttery vinyl. New seat foam and a whole lot of love go a long way and old, well-loved pieces like this are what the upholsterer in me lives for!

We were excited to get our hands on this old converted train seat/foldout sleeper from the moment we saw it!

Got into the bones of this one, re-tied the springs and gave the seat a whole new lease on life. The new fabric color they chose - while similar to the old (and incredibly difficult to accurately capture with my camera) - is a whole lot more rich and vibrant and really made the whole piece POP 😍
