I am recommending this as an organic preservative for any wood contacting the ground. There are other options but this works and is friendly to environment

Does burning wood seal it? Yes, burning wood seal the wooden surface since a layer of char leaves on the surface after burning the wood. The carbon layer prevents water from going inside the wood and protects wood from rotting.
