I'm just a man in his garage, making functional, simple, and affordable furniture and custom cabinetry.

I'll never be mistaken for a fine craftsman, but I make really useful stuff. Tables, cabinets, drawers, indoor and outdoor furniture: if you have a design in your head, I'll do my best to make it a reality. I love to use reclaimed wood, re-purposing it for a second chance at life. My goal is always to create sturdy, well-made pieces that will last years -- exactly what you won't find at any box store.

Working in partnership with the AmeriCorp Program at Wayne State University and Marathon Oil, these garden boxes are finding homes all around Southwest Detroit.
It's been so fun working with the younger generation and enjoying their energy and enthusiasm.
Special shoutout to the 'Assembly Team' Mar, D'Laina, Canon, Ira and a few others whose names are escaping my Swiss cheese memory.
Over the past few weeks, we've figured out ways to improve the design, simplify assembly and make the garden boxes even better.
And of course, my apprentices joined in the fun of preparing the parts for the boxes 😁

A fun second project for Kris, that's a cool and unique vanity.
A bit of surgery on the legs was needed to nip a bit off 1 end, and regraft it back on in the center to support the middle shelf.
Early American stain and 5 coats of Crystalac polyurethane.

The latest project to come out since our return to the building shop ❣️
They are a perfect accessory for a wedding at Meadowbrook Hall.
I incorporated retractable landing gear /4" wheels to make transport easy and safe.
Design was by my own Kelsey, who also survived working an assembly session with dad 😁

Greetings from 2021!!

As you can see, it's been quite awhile since I last visited.
Let's just say that 'life' threw my family a few splitter, sinking curveball pitches over the last 1 1/2 years.
And that's not even counting the adventures in Covid.
Without going into much detail, I am happy to share that there are some encouraging developments, news, and blood test results to continue to affirm our high expectations & hopes ❣️

I just finished a vanity project for Chris (God bless his eternal patience!) and anxious to be able to entertain new & creative projects from you folks❣️

My family & I move onward with 😄 renewed optimism, on many many fronts, and enthusiasm for the signs of the world returning😄 to some degree of 'normal' 😁❤️☘️🤞🙏 🎶❣️

Ps - and always know and remember that prayers DO work🙏❣️

A nice little 36" featuring the frame /panel drawer fronts, full-height door, undermount soft close drawer glides in a beautiful English chestnut finish.
Shaker style is truly timeless isn't it ❤️

You may wonder, how does Casey keep his shop clean...
Besides my beautiful granddaughters Ellie May and Molly May, I rely on the Dustopper.
This device was invented by a fellow Barbershopper (Tom sings bass in case you're wondering 🎶) and is truly the *best-in-breed* - dusting off the competition in its field.
99% of the stuff drops into the bucket, saving countless, aggraving* hours cleaning the vacuum filters!
This $40 device is the best cleaning investment you can ever come up with.
And it's useful outside the shop too. If you use your shop vac a lot, you should look into getting a Dustopper to make all your cleanup chores a little bit easier. 🖖👌😎🎶

The latest project leaving the shop is this 18 x 46" island.
Built strong to support a granite topping, and featuring gorgeous maple wood doors and facings.
Adjustable shelves are perfect for those large pots & mixers.

How to build for the wide space...
These units go side-by-side to fill 81 1/2" of space.
Adjustable shelves, drawers and the cool built-in wine rack for maximum functionality.
A little creative design hides the seam between the units in behind the right hand door 👍

Fun fact: 90% of the oak in the doors and face frame is salvage / 2nd life Ikea futon parts 😎

Introducing the latest "Woodwerks" project.... The perfect mudroom bench.
This was another design from 'Island Karry', and features lots of accessible storage with the huge drawer.
Another feature of this project is that it's made up of 99% salvage / re-purposed woods. Old closet shelves 'cull" boards from Home Depot, and estate sale buys.
Karry teases that she has another project for us on the drawing board 👍😎
