I haven’t had a tidbit from Thailand since Season 3 of The White Lotus wrapped up last year … but this story caught my eye and made me smile … it’s a well known fact, sad but true, that Thailand has an illicit drugs problem … think back packers, gap year kids and full moon parties … there’s no telling what Westerners at play will get up to when they are thousands of miles away from home … one particular drug kingpin was on the radar of local Thai police in the province of Lopburi …the suspected m**hamphetamine pill pusher had earned a reputation as a skirt stalker and it was known thru police intelligence work that he was planning to attend a nighttime dance festival in town …led by a female investigator who posed as the director of a exotic dance troupe, fellow police officers, all male, dressed in sparkly sequined drag to entrap the lowlife fellow … the honey trap worked and the suspect fell in line behind the dance troupe and as quick as you can say Pad Thai he was clinked in handcuffs … the police/drag girls found over 150 illegal m**h pills in the pockets of our pusher … the photo above corroborates the ingenious sting operation … the suspect’s face is blocked out but the police boys and girl smile broadly for the camera … without any Cultural Critique in my Heart I do love the drug dealer’s name … he is identified as Mekha Fa-wap-wap … he’s facing a bunch of charges that are more than a slap slap on the wrist … now the only problem is that one of the Sting officers has decided he likes the feel of glittery satin upon his body … how to wrap a leather holster strap around a cloud of perfumed prettiness ?

Just by a whisker in time did I manage to pay homage to my immediate forebears before the Memorial Day Monday closed in on the clock … since I was age 7 I have been the inheritor of a family tradition to honor my near family who lie sleeping at the burying ground behind the Jericho, Long Island Friends Meeting House … that is 65+ years … and I’ve not regretted it in the least, missing only three years due to COVID and travel complications … my Mother!s paternal family have been Members of the Jericho Quaker Meeting since its inception … the cemetery behind the simple clapboard structure is all family … old Long Island names … not polo players Whitney, Phipps, Guest or Bostwick … but rather Underhill, Titus,Willets, Jackson and Robbins … Farmers, Bankers, Merchants and yes, even a few layabouts who lived modestly on family trust funds, mostly wiped out in the 1929 Wall Street crash … I’ve spent many a Sunday morning on those hard wooden pews …Silent Meeting in the Quaker tradition… nary a Virgin Mary, a Baby Jesus or a Gold embossed Bible in sight … just a crackling wood stove for heat in the winter … open doors and windows in the summer … the Meeting House property is now surrounded by modernity … see the Outhouse framed against a modern office building just over the fence line … there was a time when I thought this patch of soil was sober and severe … now I see it as silent and serene … my final resting place, I hope long in the future

A double headed Elephant …I stumbled across this vintage piece and sent a photo to our favorite ceramics workshop in Italy …I asked if they might ever known of it in past years …I was charmed to learn that this was a long ago mold in their family’s archives of three generations … they will dig the mold out of their warehouse and put it back into production just for us … everything old is new again
