Another refinish!!!

We found this old painted coffee table on the side of the road; the top corner was heavily chewed off...of course we stopped and put it in our truck.

Derek stripped off all of the battleship grey paint and disassembled the piece. We decided to see if the wood would accept a stain...it did.

Next, that nasty top. We took leftover cut pieces from a previous project and created a herringbone effect on top of the existing board, to retain the strength and stability of the original piece.

We applied two coats of epoxy for a smooth, shiny surface...to seal in the edges of the wood.

Then, to ice the cake, we added a band of black metal around the edges for a more industrial look and to add permanence to the piece.

We were so excited to get started, that we forgot to take good "before" photos...but here are a few to get the idea!

We love it!!!! So do it's new owners❤️

Pieces & parts...demo & rebuild.
The tiles are handmade & imperfect...the movement wakes up the space.
Repurposed wood that we just couldn't alter...beautiful!!!!
We found the floor tiles at our local Restore.
Black paint...my favorite, so moody❤️

Happy May!

Plaid Planks Woodwork & Design has been working on multiple designs during this cold, rainy few months.

This is a sliding wooden window shutter system. The issue was a barking puppy that got around curtains, slatted blinds, etc...

It's magical.

The area did not allow for typical shutters, so we came up with these. The interior is a multi-color to match the room's existing artwork. The exterior side is stained walnut to match the home's doors & garage. The hardware is black industrial steel.

(Apologies for the coloring...it appears much more orange/dark due to rainy day lighting)
