Welcome to the farm and family, our newest addition is this sweet little buckling! Buster will be the new billy for our small herd of goats and we can't wait to watch him grow into a handsome, well-behaved gentleman.

Yesterday we planted forty-four tomato plants in the garden, and I raced against the first rain drops as I was finishing up. Then the sky opened up and we received rounds of heavy showers, probably receiving at least three inches of rain! Mind you, there has been absolutely NO forecast suggesting this amount of rainfall in a few hours. In fact, all the forecasts have suggested somewhere between one and two inches for the WEEK, with some locally higher amounts 😳 Otherwise I wouldn't have decided to plant all these tomatoes 😂 But as I was getting close to finishing, I spotted a couple of four-leaf clovers and am hopeful it was an indicator of what's to come for the garden this season 🍀 Thankfully, all of the tomato seedlings seem to have come through the deluge unscathed, and will likely be the most hardy tomato plants ever! 🤞🏼

(Photos with the ponding water were taken after the first heavy shower. Most of that had receded/absorbed into the ground before the next round of rain started, and today there is no standing water).

This has been an idea in my head for a couple of years now and this year it's happening 🙌🏼 While my original plan was to do a giant peace sign solely out of sunflowers, I SIGNIFICANTLY underestimated the number of sunflower seeds I would need, so I had to improvise 🤷🏼‍♀️ The outer circle is planted with sunflowers, pumpkins, and watermelons while the inner lines are planted with beans and zinnias. Now I just have to keep the deer from eating things as they come up ☮️

Mother's Day is this Sunday! If you need some last minute gift or dinner ideas, come out to the Mount Airy NC Farmer's Market Friday 9:00-12:00 or the Pilot Mountain Farmers Market Saturday 3:00-6:00.

This week I will have:

📸 Bridges Family Session 📸

This shoot came with plenty of challenges. Photographing a family of six can be difficult enough, but when it includes a newborn, a toddler, and one preschool-aged, formal posing goes straight out the window and you have to rely on catching the little moments of joy that come naturally when no one realizes the camera is raised. I'm so glad I didn't plan a lot of poses ahead of time, because about 90% of what I captured ended up being candid/unplanned 🤪 Add in that it was mid-afternoon and the young leaves on the trees reflect pretty much ALL of the light, which resulted in the need for some creative editing.

I still have a few photos to edit from this session, but wanted to go ahead and share because I love how these turned out!

We have been taking radishes to the market the last couple of weeks and not only do I sell out every time, they get a lot of love for how pretty they are, so I wanted to share the variety!

These are fabuloso hybrid from Burpee. Ready in just a little over three weeks after planting, these grow nice and round with the most beautiful pinkish-red coloring. And they're delicious, too! 🫜🫜

Keep in mind that it is still April, so produce is only just starting to come in and it will be a bit before things like tomatoes and peppers are coming in.
