BuilderChicks started in 2016 as a part-time side hobby by Amy and Krista. Let us dream and build with you!

We switched to full-time at the start of 2019 and we are fully licensed, bonded, and insured. Just two best friends that make custom furniture, cutting boards, do small remodeling jobs, and build lots of things!!

Also, in other news updates, Amy is dabbling in BuilderChicks on the side and pretty much sticking to making small projects for markets… But she’s doing 99.5% of the work on her own because Krista and her husband “And Dude” had twin girls this summer! - She built BuilderChicks! 😂🤣

End of an era today!

This is ’s last day full-time with BuilderChicks! She starts her new job Monday and we’re stoked about it!!

One of our more personal favorite projects from the last few months was this “Guestbook” picture frame for Krista’s wedding!

Krista ended up with three different engagement photography sessions, and had collected wine corks for years. So she created this idea to make a guestbook out of it all that would live in their new home!

Each paper color matched all 7 wedding colors and every one of them was a unique quote, idea, advice etc.. shared from the wedding guests at her reception!

Now it hangs in their living room! ✨

BuilderChicks is transitioning.

After prayer, consideration, struggling, and taking a long hard assessment of our situation, we have decided to stop doing BuilderChicks full-time.

How did we get here?
Our business started struggling last Fall… But, in reality, we’ve been struggling since - for always… However, specifically since the pandemic started. For a while we were doing ok and even getting ahead, jobs were coming in, we were finding our stride, getting through it all! And, working so so so hard to figure out how to run our own business and provide for ourselves.
Last Fall things took a turn slowly between material (and life) prices going up and large job requests (that fueled our business) going down. We tried expanding and adding things to get us through, which kinda worked for a while, but wasn’t a long-term solution. Now we are at about 1/4 of the large project requests that sustain our business, and slowly getting more and more behind on business expenses. We looked into investors, grants, and adjusting so we could hire more help to crank out more projects… thus making more money, but we just slowly continued to get behind.
Physically our bodies are tired, emotionally and mentally we’re burnt out, and there’s no end in sight to hold onto and get us to the other side.

What now?
We are finishing out our current obligations, and then we are going to continue to create and make things we enjoy and love, but on our terms and on the side again!

Amy is in negotiations for a job that would be training her for another long-time dream position of hers!!
Krista is still applying, and has learned there are literally thousands of people applying for similar positions as her 😂🤦🏽‍♀️
We will share more when it’s appropriate!

But, we want you to know, we are grateful.
We love the 3.5years that we have been able to do this full-time together!
We’re still best friends!
We’re still creating.
We love our clients and biggest supporters!
We’re still blessed for how the Lord has provided for us!

Our Story

BuilderChicks was started in 2016 as a part-time side hobby by two best friends Amy and Krista in Washington, DC.

Slowly as the years progressed we started getting more requests to build custom furniture, small repair or remodel jobs, and a load of handywomen projects. In 2018 Amy began talking with Krista about leaving her job and switching to BuilderChicks full-time, so Krista put into motion helping Amy figure out all the things needed to make the switch, and together they started dreaming up what life would be like with this new creative adventure. By the end of 2018, Krista was looking for a new full-time job and ultimately decided to also pursue BuilderChicks as well because nothing else brought the same level of dreaming and excitement.

Now, both friends spend countless hours dreaming, creating, working and discussing BuilderChicks and what it could be in the future.
