We are open to works from or featuring women, trans and nonbinary individuals. Queer artists, artists of color, and disabled artists are especially encouraged to submit. We are seeking writers, storytellers, poets, performance artists, monologists, dancers, singers, musicians, fine artists, burlesque dancers, spoken words artists, comedians, improvisers, sketch groups/performers, theatre ensembles, filmmakers, sound artists, activists, and geez, did we miss anything??? STEP ONE: Come to an event! Check us out! Introduce yourself to Liz and Eileen! TO APPLY:
Send the following in an email to [email protected]. We will be reviewing submissions on a rolling basis.
1) Name of performer or group
2) Contact person
3) How did you hear about us? What is your availability for the evening of the second Monday in February, April, June, August, October and December?
4) What is your art?
5) Describe what you would like to present at Sappho's (feel free to include your writing in an attachment, send us a youtube link, photos, or not!)
6) Where have you performed before?
7) Our featured performances range from 10-20 minutes, longer can be negotiated. How much time do you need?
8) Do you have any scenic/prop/sound/etc elements to your piece? (This includes a music stand, chairs, music, etc) We enjoy simplicity and we are in a bookstore, not a traditional theater space.
9) We seek to support work exploring gender, sexuality, and/or feminism. How does your piece explore one or two or all of those themes? We can't wait!
- Liz and Eileen, your co-curators
PS: And maybe this should be at the top…but hey, we pay! We split the cash from the door between the performers and WCF's Women's Fund. TL;DR--GO READ THE WHOLE THING. Hosts: Liz Baudler and Eileen Tull
