Antique Chickering & Sons Square Piano (1861-1863)

Chickering was the very first piano manufacturer in America, established in 1823 in Boston, Massachusetts.
The serial number #22855 dates it in the early 1860’s when Jonas’ sons were brought into the business.
This piano is made of an exotic Brazilian Rosewood, and is of the massive Empire Revival style with its beautiful octagon legs and the elaborately carved wooden pieces. Owning this piano was only for the extremely privileged in the early 19th Century.
This beautiful piano underwent a $14,000 purist restoration in 2012 in Lynchburg, Virginia and continues to play beautifully. It has all the character of time well spent and is fully functional. It’s truly of museum quality.
