The Toledo Mobile Radio Association is an organization based on amateur radio activities. The TMRA is the largest of 5 similar organizations in the Toledo, Ohio area. WHY TMRA EXISTS…
Educate and increase the proficiency of its members in radio communication. Provide for dissemination of information among its members. Advancement and progress in the field of radio communication. Organize and train units of licensed radio amateurs capable of radio communications. Encourage and sponsor experimental activities in radio communication. Promote the elevation of standards of practice and ethics. The organization was originally founded to provide emergency communications should some type of disaster occur. TMRA was founded in December of 1953 by Maynard "Red" Nelson, W8HHF; Karl Koella, W8VSB; and John Rosenberger, W8WIT. Approximately 15 amateurs met at the American Red Cross Building near Downtown Toledo for the first monthly business meeting of the new organization. Today the organization is still prepared to provide emergency communication along with participating in a variety of other activities related to amateur radio and community service. Over the years, the TMRA has held it's general business meetings at the Red Cross building, in the home garage of one of its members, the Salvation Army, the Auditorium of Toledo Edison's Acme generating station and Luke's Barn which is part of the Lucas County Recreation Center. Today, monthly meetings are held at the Electrical Industrial Building in Rossford. Membership in the TMRA has ranged from the original 15 to more than 340 in the early 1990's. From the mid-1990's through 2010, membership has declined to around 200 members. An amateur radio license in not required to become a member of the TMRA. However, a current amateur radio license is required to become a full voting member in the organization. The TMRA is classified as a tax exempt, non-profit, educational organization. The organization is also registered with the State of Ohio Attorney General's office as a charitable trust foundation. The TMRA is recognized by the ARRL as a Special Services Club.

Field Day 2020 is Shaping Up to be One for the Record Books
ARRL Contest Program Manager Paul Bourque, N1SFE, reported this week that ARRL has received more than 8,700 online Field Day entries, and paper-only entries have started arriving too.

"As many participants chose to operate from home this year, and given the 2020 rules waivers, we have seen a tremendous increase in entries over last year's event," Bourque said. "Most of the entries received have been through the online web app, and Headquarters staffers have begun processing the paper entries this week." The 2020 waivers allowed individual club members to attribute their scores to their clubs.
Participants who submitted entries online are encouraged to check the Field Day entries received page to verify that their entries are marked as complete, and that the club name entered is correct. Entries with a status of "pending" are incomplete entries that are missing one or more items, and these need to be completed for an official entry.
Share your stories and photos using the ARRL soapbox page or via social media, such as on the ARRL Field Day Facebook group.

Just as a reminder to all, I'll be your "hidden Transmitter" this evening, starting at 6:30pm. This will be a mobile style hunt (take a reading, get in your car, drive, stop and take another reading, etc.) and will begin from the Old Andersons Parking Lot at the NW corner or Talmadge and Monroe in Toledo.

What to expect:
1. I will be "not so hidden" and transmitting from somewhere in Lucas County. If you find your way into Monroe, Fulton, Wood, etc., you have gone too far. :)

2. I'll be starting from a mobile radio on a gain antenna running about 50 watts and will be transmitting with roughly 45seconds on and 1minute off intervals. This hunt will occur on the input of the 147.27 repeater (so listen for me on the input). This way, if you are wondering if I'm still transmitting, just switch over to the repeater output. :)

3. After about 1 hour, I'll be switching my power to 20 watts. After 1.5 hours, I'll be switching to about 7 watts.

4. This is a no person left behind activity. Therefore, I'll start giving some general clues after the first 1.5 hours, and more pointed clues (or general info on my location) after 2 hours (in order to make sure we have some time to share our stories together before we call it a night).

5. I intend to unlink the 442.850 repeater during this activity, so feel free to chat on it separately throughout the hunt. I will re-link them after the hunt.

Don't hesitate to listen along to learn a little about transmitter hunting if you cannot attend/participate, and feel free to use the repeater in between my transmissions (just be sure to leave me room to transmit again). Remember that you can do this with only a hand-held radio by putting your body in between the transmitter and the signal (the signal will dip when your body is in the way and we call that "body shielding").

This is about the fun, not the win, so give it a try!

Hello Everyone.
I have Three updates for you today, Monday May 18th 2020

First, the TMRA has named a new primary admin time our page. Mark/K8MWS will be the new primary Admin and will handle the majority of the “Day to Day” Page details. Rob/KV8P, Chrissy/KC8UFV and myself will also remain as support Admins. The TMRA would like to thank Mark for taking in this responsibility.

Secondly, during tomorrow’s FLDIGI Sound-card Net, the NWO AREDN Mesh Committee will be running a Drill. They will be creating some digital Traffic Messages within the AREDN Mesh Ad-Hock system and it’s Internet Tunneling ability’s, and then passing that Traffic across the FLDIGI Net. It should be an interesting Test if that Technology. Be sure to tune into that Net if your interested.

Finally from Rob/KV8P there is an Announcement relating to the June General Meeting. Here’s what Rob has to say....

The 7pm TMRA General meeting Net and Zoom meeting for June 10th will be preceded by a 6-7pm Zoom presentation by the Ohio ARRL Section Manager Scott Yonally (N8SY).

Zoom Meeting information (for both meetings) will be sent out to the TMRA Mailing List (and to member emails) by/before June 8th (a few days prior to the General Meeting).

We hope everyone can join us!

Rob (KV8P)

I hope you are all well and I look forward to seeing you soon.
