My most well-known before and after, and the one I just haven’t been able to let go - but I need to make space.

I rescued this century-old hickory stick rocker out of a water puddle outside of an antique store.

I put about 40 hours of labor into it - carefully removing all the dirt, bird droppings and old seat and back, refinishing it without destroying the bark, clearcoating to preserve for future generations, and re-weaving the seat and back to match the old pattern.

Asking $900. I can stain the seat and back if desired.

Good Saturday morning, Union City! ☕️

May your day be filled with cool breezes on a perfectly comfortable porch rocker. If you don’t have one of those, you may need one and we may know a place.🪑😁

This may be the finest finish color I’ve seen on a Lincoln rocker - what a beauty! Circa 1890. After 26 hours of weaving about a quarter mile of fine cane, it went back to its loving home this weekend.

We have been so focused on getting orders completed and delivered as of late that we have failed to get before and after photos of everything. We are fast approaching our 200th chair in the 9 months we’ve been in business! Here are a few odd jobs around the house today.🪑🧺
(Bonus photo: Ajax being very upset that the industrial stapler was used 6 days in a row).

While they are not the most valuable pieces by any means, the “heart and soul” of seat weaving and heritage piece restorations in this part of the country is epitomized in the near-universal experience of a “little red rocker” during early childhood. So much so that when I was listing dozens of names to run past my family and friends for the name of this business, my personal favorite was “The Little Red Rocker.”
My mentor held them in such high reverence that they were moved to the front of the line over anything else. They take the weaver, as well as the owner, back to a place of simplicity and innocence, and the post-restoration reaction is always so pure and uplifting.
This heirloom piece will be passed on to another generation this week.
Who else had a little red rocker when you were a small child?

Stick-built splint pieces will always be my favorites. We finished these beauties for a customer back in October and I have been seeking more like them since. If you have stick-built furniture you would be willing to sell, or if you are a woodworker with the materials and skills to build them, let us know!
