We’re selling our farmhouse. Built in 1875 with a new addition added in 1994. 2 miles east of Dover on a nice paved road. Sits on about 5 acres with more land available— great old barn, 2 car detached garage, lovely pond view.
There’s not much nicer than sitting on the front porch and looking out over the hay meadow — birds singing, trees rustling. Peace and quiet. We hope the next family will love it as much as we have.

Just like playing store again! ❤️ I’ve been setting up for the Brewster Place Bazaar — so many wonderful handmade items from our residents and friends of Brewster. Quilted goods, 275 embroidered kitchen towels, awesome woodwork and painted items... our activity room is FULL. Also: I’ve watercolored 100 greeting cards and they’ll be for sale at just $2 each. Come see! Friday and Saturday, November 8 and 9 from 9 am- 3 pm. A good deed —money from your purchases go to local charities.

I’ve been taking a trip down Memory Lane this week, looking through old photos. It always catches me by surprise when I find pictures of the shop at Christmas-time — kind of a clutch at my heart, but in a good way. It really was my HappyLand! Sure miss those days of arranging and rearranging and seeing so many nice folks having FUN shopping. Hope you’ve been out visiting Topeka’s shopkeepers — your purchases keep ‘em going and puts your money back to work locally. And that’s good news for all of us.

I’m feeling the love this week for small businesses! Hope you’ll stop by and visit my friends at Red Door Home Store this weekend— I wandered in yesterday and boy, it looks fabulous. You know I’m all about the display and they know how to do it. It’s a fine shop and they’re nice people — and you can’t beat that.

My mom’s been gone for a few years now, but I think about her every day. And some of my sweetest memories are of her behind the counter at our shop... she marked stuff, kept our bills paid and books balanced to the penny, and was unfailingly nice to everyone who visited. What a gift she was. Wishing all of you a happy Mother’s Day, and hoping that those of you who still have your moms will hug them a little longer and harder tomorrow and remember what a blessing God has given us!

A little bird told me (ok, it was Julie Clanton) that my friends at Red Door Home Store have been nominated for a wonderful honor: Jesse Borjon and his crew (including ace floral designer Jane Koger who is the kindest lady on Planet Earth) have been recognized as one of three finalists for the 2018 Greater Topeka Chamber of Commerce Emerging Entrepreneur of Distinction Award. Terrific news and well-deserved: such a pretty shop and the folks who are behind the counter are always, always just plain NICE. If you haven't been there, go... and if it's been a while, drop by and SHOP -- your support of a local business is the best kind of congratulations you can give a small business owner!

Though I don’t have a full time shop anymore, I’m still a sucker for a wonderful display. Digging this one...what a fun thing to collect. Hmmm. I’ll be married 40 years this June...maybe I should collect 40 little couples. Because I need another collection! :)

Back in the day when I had an everyday-open retail shop, I didn't have time or inclination to decorate at home for the holidays... this is the first time in many years I've dug into the boxes of stuff I'd packed away. Our house is very small, so I didn't put out much (who wants to put it away?) but it was sure fun to fuss and fiddle a little. Merry Christmas to your house from our's!

What a fun day! Thanks to everybody who came to our Farm Sale today... the garage is pretty empty tonight and it was good to see so many friends from our shop days. I always worry that nobody will come but we had a great crowd and I hope you all had fun. Shall we do it again? :)
