Darr Furniture

Darr Furniture We bring custom furniture and accent pieces to life. Andrew Darr may not be a name you have heard before, but it’s certainly one you want to remember. Mr.

As a contemporary furniture craftsman, Andrew’s meticulous eye for design is quickly establishing his style in the woodworking community. Darr credits the strong sense of design to everything he learned while pursuing his degree in interior design. Andrew is married to his best friend, who has played a major role in his success. Both military vets, they have developed a tradition of helping other

s. This is why Andrew focuses so much of his energy into finding local resources for his supply needs. Some things cannot be found locally, so he tries to purchase these online items from American companies. “Supporting American companies is lucrative for everyone.” When Andrew is not working in the shop, he enjoys the infinite opportunities Colorado has to offer.

The simple things: Been a LONG time out of shop. Will still be a bit before I get 220 wired in, so tools are pretty limited. Pretty stoked to finally be able to make proper flat stock thanks to a small, used jointer I picked up. Small projects starting soon!

Any recommendations for a local handyman in Denver area? I just need some help wrapping up odds and ends around house before we sell. I tried Angi and am quite disappointed with the quality of what little bit of work that was done. So figured I'd see who you guys have tried? Needing work done right away.

It's funny how it doesn't quite feel like we're moving until I start loading up some of the bigger machinery. Alot of amazing memories made in this tiny shop. I look forward to finally getting back in good headspace and making new memories in our new location.

First coat of waterlox. Always been my favorite rubbing oil. What's your favorite finish? This is the only flag I've done in blue. Custom mix. Not quite the hue I was going for, but overall I'm pleased. 2-3 more coats of finish, then let it air out in shop for about two weeks. Until then, the smell of that Waterlox is deathly. (Which is why I didn't use it often in past) I am pleased to finally own one of my flags!

So much life in this guy, just like all the previous. First day back in shop for over month, and feels great. Sanded to 120. Should be applying finish next weekend!

Rough shaping almost complete. It's pretty deep, and gonna be a real pain sanding. Will be well worth it though!

Last cuts and glue ups. Now at stage 1 of carving. The cutterhead for this grinder is one of the secret ingredients to this sauce. It has no mercy, no matter how hard the wood. (That red is padauk which is almost twice as hard as white oak.) Next week I break out the Holey Galahad to finish shaping and get ready for the endless hours of sanding. Needless to say, The wood fibers got me itching in areas I didn't know existed.

Getting my man-glitter on. The padauk is gorgeous, but nasty stuff to work with. And about 50% harder than white oak. Great start for just half a day. Still need to glue all stripes and star area together. One flag is traditional, the other IR.

When I had to give up my woodworking business 5 years ago I always planned to get back into it as a hobby. And never in a million years did I expect 5 years to pass beforehand. But here we are. And I am itching to be covered in man glitter again! What better way to hop back on the bike but with a couple of my favorite pieces. I will only make two more of my American flags. One for wife and I since we never got one, and one promised to my sister. My sister's will be an IR flag. And as always, I will document the progression. Finally back at it! Had to post some old photos with this.
