Not all islands belong in the kitchen. 👀

This customer needed additional storage and workspace in their bathroom, so we built a custom island designed specifically for the space.

✔️ Four large drawers for storage

Important Shipping Update

Over the years, Wood You Build It has absorbed hundreds of thousands of dollars in delivery costs in an effort to make handcrafted furniture more accessible for our customers. While we recently introduced a voluntary shipping contribution program, the reality is that the cost of personally delivering large furniture pieces across the country continues to rise.

Effective immediately, we will no longer be accepting standard orders west of the Mississippi River through our free delivery program.

Customers located west of the Mississippi are still welcome to place an order by contacting us directly for a third-party freight quote. Depending on the item and location, shipping typically ranges from approximately $300–$2,000 (That’s not a typo. We’ve even had a few quotes over $3000 just to ship one piece.) However, the goal is to try our hardest to keep it under $600 for you though.

As a small family-owned business, we simply can no longer absorb these costs while maintaining the quality, craftsmanship, and service our customers expect.

We’re officially introducing a brand new option on many of our handcrafted kitchen islands…
👉 Purchase your island WITHOUT the butcher block top and SAVE BIG.

Why are we doing this? Simple.
Butcher block tops have become harder to source, more expensive, and they add a significant amount of labor, fabrication, sanding, packaging, and shipping weight. By offering our islands “base only,” we can pass those savings directly on to YOU while also speeding up production times.

This gives customers the opportunity to:

At Wood You Build It, we want to clarify something that many people may not fully understand about how our company operates.

We personally deliver our furniture across the country. We do not place your handmade furniture on a random freight truck and hope for the best. We do not leave your investment on a curb. We coordinate, load, transport, and deliver these pieces ourselves because we genuinely care about what arrives at your home.

What many don’t realize is that “free shipping” is not actually free to us. In fact, shipping large handmade furniture is extremely expensive. The only way we can even remotely justify continuing to offer free delivery is by grouping deliveries together by region and building routes accordingly. That means timing can vary from case to case depending on where customers are located and how routes line up.

If someone needs guaranteed expedited delivery within a very specific timeframe, that option absolutely exists, but the customer would need to cover the actual shipping costs themselves. Depending on location, we regularly see shipping quotes ranging anywhere from a few hundred dollars to over $3,000 just for shipping alone.

We understand waiting can be frustrating. Trust us, nobody wants these pieces out of our shop and into your homes more than we do. But we also believe many customers don’t realize the amount of money, time, coordination, fuel, labor, and care that goes into personally delivering handcrafted furniture nationwide.

We are a real mom-and-pop manufacturing company, not a mass-production warehouse. Every order is handmade, and every customer matters to us.

All we ask is for a little understanding and respect for the level of service we are providing. We are going above and beyond to save our customers thousands of dollars while also ensuring their furniture arrives safely and personally delivered by our own team.

In some instances, this old-school approach may take more time, but we still believe it’s worth it.

The Truth About “Free Shipping” in Furniture (And Why We Do It Differently)

“Free shipping” sounds great… until you realize you’re paying for it anyway.

In the furniture world, those costs don’t disappear, they just get hidden inside the price.

We decided to do things differently.
Instead of raising our prices and calling it “free,” we give our customers the option to contribute toward delivery… or not at all.

No pressure. No gimmicks. Just transparency.

🚚 A different approach to shipping…

While many companies are starting to enforce shipping surcharges, we’re choosing to do things the way we always have; our way.

At Wood You Build It, we’ve spent years personally delivering our furniture across the country. We bulk our routes by region, pack our trucks to the brim, and handle everything ourselves, no third parties, no curbside drop-offs.

That approach has saved our customers hundreds of thousands of dollars over the years… and we’ve always been proud to offer that as free shipping.

But the reality is, delivery costs have become extremely expensive.

So instead of forcing a shipping fee, we’re introducing something different:
👉 A voluntary shipping contribution

This is 100% optional. Nothing is required.
We will continue to deliver your furniture with the same care, the same white-glove service, and the same commitment.

That said, for those who choose to contribute, please know how much it truly means to us. It helps us continue doing things the right way, keeping delivery personal, protecting your furniture, and avoiding the “leave it on the sidewalk” experience.

We’re not a big box company.
