One of our favorite ways to show love and kindness here at the FJC is through our Handbags of Hope.

Do you or someone you know have old purses or bags that you once loved but no longer use? And now they're taking up valuable space that could be better used for your Vinted packages?

Let us take them off your hands!

Oftentimes, we see survivors of domestic and family violence at some of their most vulnerable moments. Each lovely soul we assist is shown our den, where we keep our Handbags of Hope. She can choose a purse/bag that she likes, which will be filled with essential and hygiene items, and maybe even some extras such as makeup or other beauty products.

Sometimes, these handbags provide necessities during an incredibly difficult time. Other times, they offer something just as meaningful: a little boost of confidence, a sense of normalcy, or simply the comfort of having something beautiful to call their own.

You are not obligated to fill the purses with products. We will happily take them empty. Thank you to our wonderful partners that donate hygiene products when possible!

Your generosity reminds survivors that they are seen, valued, and deserving of kindness every step of the way. 💜👛

The Family Justice Center would like to sincerely thank everyone that came out to support our Domestic Violence and Infant Loss Awareness event.

We are especially grateful to the brave mother that shared her story, those that offered words of encouragement, and those that stood alongside us in remembrance and solidarity.

Together, we honored lives lost, recognized the strength of survivors, and created space for compassion, healing, and hope.

Thank you for helping us make this evening so meaningful. Your presence and support are a reminder that no one should have to walk their journey alone. 💜

Purple Thursday is observed every year on the third Thursday of October as part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. It's a day to honor victims, support survivors, and raise awareness about domestic violence.

Purple stands for peace, courage, and survival, and for our shared commitment to ending domestic abuse.

Our Oak Ridge team wore purple to show support for victims and survivors. 💜

A RECORD YEAR!

11th ANNUAL DIXIE ROOFING CLAYS FOR CHILDREN SPORTING CLAYS TOURNAMENT
NETS $137,000 FOR LOCAL CHILDREN’S CENTERS

On Thursday, October 1 and Friday, October 2, 2026, District Attorney General Jared Effler and staff, in partnership with the Children’s Centers of the 8th Judicial District, hosted the Eleventh Annual Dixie Roofing Clays for Children Sporting Clays Tournament at Iron Mountain Sporting Clays in Kodak, Tennessee. The purpose of the event was to raise money to support the Children’s Centers of the 8th Judicial District, comprised of Campbell, Claiborne, Fentress, Scott, and Union counties. With 159 teams and 592 individual shooters participating, this year’s tournament was one of the largest such events in the nation!

The Children’s Centers of the 8th Judicial District serve hundreds of children each year and work closely with local law enforcement and the District Attorney General’s Office. They assist with medical examinations, forensic interviews, counseling, and court proceedings. The services the centers provide help to ensure that justice is served as well as help victims navigate the court system and receive the resources they need.

District Attorney General Jared Effler stated: “It takes an army of people to engineer an event of this magnitude. From the bottom of my heart, I want to express my sincere gratitude to everyone who made the 11th Annual Dixie Roofing Clays for Children Sporting Clays Tournament a tremendous success!”

The District Attorney General’s Office is pleased to announce that this year’s Dixie Roofing Clays for Children Sporting Clays Tournament netted $137,000! This money will ensure that our Children’s Centers can continue their worthy mission of serving abused and neglected children. We are already making plans for next year’s event and hope everyone can join us.
