I want to address the fact that I haven't been actively involved in Austin artists' events for the past year or thrown any events in the last two years. There are various reasons for this, but I don't want to dwell on them for too long. One of the main reasons is that I've noticed a decline in artists' efforts to promote themselves and seek support from others. It seems like the convenience of streaming services and downloads has made some artists complacent.
Despite taking a step back from events, I'm still promoting my internet venture, Insanely Gifted Radio. I take pleasure in showcasing independent artists from different genres, even though many artists are handling their careers independently.
From my perspective, I've observed that some artists are hesitant to reach out to certain entities due to a lack of support from fans, fellow artists, and the media in general. There are only a few people left in the industry, like me, who are advocating for independent artists. While some may consider me an "old head," it's clear that certain artists are struggling with the current media landscape and new ways of operating. I'm still here trying to bridge the gap, even though I'm unsure of the impact I'm making. I want everyone to know that I'm still here, regardless.
