If the word ‘scullery’ seems foreign, you may be more familiar with the term ‘Butler’s Pantry.’

These extra rooms off to the side of the kitchen are in high demand, as open plan living becomes more popular. The scullery allows you to increase the capacity of your kitchen to cope with cooking for larger families or entertaining.

Some say, a scullery is simply a walk in pantry. What’s the difference? What do I need?

Amerex Renovations & Additions summed it up perfectly:

“A walk-in pantry and a butler’s kitchen are similar but most definitely not the same. A pantry tends to be a storage area for dry-goods only. Whereas a butler’s pantry will usually contain some elements of kitchen functionality too such as a purpose-built area to use a coffee machine, microwave or an additional sink alongside a bench-top for food preparation.”

We love them, and if you like more wiggle room while you’re prepping for dinner, you will too!
