Local Favorite Gets Makeover

Article by Jenny Higgons / Journal News / June 2014

If you’re strolling down Lafayette Avenue looking for Suffern Fine Furniture and don’t see it, don’t despair. The 67 year old downtown mainstay is alive and well but with new owners, new merchandise and a new name.

When original proprietors Helen and Arnold Horowitz decided to retire, they wanted to sell the store to someone they thought would take care of it in the same caring way that they had. That’s when one of the Horowitz’s sons, Jeffrey, thought of his longtime friend Anthony Tufano.

“Jeffrey asked me if I’d be interested in buying the store and renting the space from them.” says Tufano. “I said yes because it was a great opportunity to take over a business that had been successful for more than 60 years.”
