In 1979, armed with nothing more than a sewing machine and her talent for creating elegant window treatments, Maria Makkas established Makkas Workroom, her beloved family business. As the years passed and her clientele grew, so did requests for more complicated projects, which heralded the beginning of a professional collaboration with her husband, Phil Makkas. The combination of Maria’s expertise

and Phil’s technical skills enabled the couple to transform even the most intricate visions of Boston’s most talented interior designers into reality. The couple’s son Manny, who earned his MBA at Northeastern University, joined the company in 2009, adding a new dimension of professionalism to the family’s thriving business. Together, the Makkas family remains dedicated to helping clients achieve balance and continuity in their interior designs through the use of exceptional custom textile creations. Excellent craftsmanship, detail-oriented execution, and timely delivery of high quality products that exceed expectations are the cornerstone of our philosophy at Makkas Workroom.
