This is a project I completed earlier this year. One of the more challenging projects I've ever done. Getting the measurements and the angles just right on all the raised paneling had me pulling my hair out. The raised panels are "authentic" solid cherry. There is no plywood involved. The scroll work was done by hand on a scroll saw, NOT CNC. The scroll cutting took about 60 hours to complete. The design was borrowed from a huge organ-type instrument that Mark Twain had commissioned in the early 20th century, which I happened to see on our trip through Hannibal, MO last year. The scroll cut panels are three 1/8" layers of solid cherry laminated together to minimize warping and cupping. The panels and inlay in the newel are from some very nice curly maple I had on hand. Carving the curved handrail was a huge challenge as well. It took me a couple months of pondering it before I dove in head first.
