Thin Line 29

Thin Line 29 I've always believed in hard work and the satisfaction that comes from seeing it pay off.

Now retired, I spend time breathing new life into old furniture--each piece has its own story, just like the people I meet along the way.

Some pieces don’t look like much at first glance.

We picked up this Mid-Century table while helping clear out an estate. The couple handling everything had come in from Minnesota to take care of things and mentioned they hadn’t even considered selling it—figured no one would want it.

But standing there, you could tell… this was a piece that had been cared for. Not just used, but kept. The kind of furniture that quietly lives in a home for decades.

That’s something we see a lot with pieces from this era—built well, maintained well, and often overlooked.

A little cleanup, a little attention to the details, and it’s ready for its next chapter.

Another piece—another story that stuck with us.

This Bassett dresser set came from a wonderful family who were in the process of liquidating their mother’s estate after her recent passing. They shared that their parents originally purchased this set back in the late 50’s or early 60’s from Montgomery Wards, and it had been part of their home ever since.

What stood out most wasn’t just the furniture—but how well everything had been cared for. They gave us a tour of the home, and it was clear their parents took incredible pride in what they owned. There was even a pristine oven from the 70’s that honestly looked cleaner than ours—and ours is only a year old.

Moments like that stick with you. It’s a reminder that these pieces aren’t just furniture—they’re part of someone’s life, their routines, their home.

The family was genuinely happy knowing this set would be refinished and passed along to another family to be enjoyed for many more years. That’s the part of this process we enjoy the most—giving something a second life while honoring where it came from.

Before → After

This 2-piece Dixie set came from a sweet older woman who recently lost her husband. As she prepares to downsize into a senior community, she wanted to make sure it went to a good home.

It had great bones — it just needed a new direction.

The body was refinished in Fusion Soapstone for a clean, updated look, while the tops were taken down to bare wood to bring the grain back to life. After sanding, they were sealed to keep that natural warmth while adding durability.

We kept the original hardware and refreshed it in an antique gold tone — a small detail that ended up making a big difference.

One piece at a time, with a little history behind each one.

It’s been a great week here at Thin Line 29.

Three pieces found new homes, and we’ll wrap things up with one more delivery tomorrow morning.

We’re finishing the week with this transformation for a repeat customer who was looking for the perfect nightstands for her bedroom.

Always appreciate the trust—especially when someone comes back to us again.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day ☘️

Fitting that we just wrapped up this set in one of our boldest greens yet.

We went back and forth on this one — muted green, olive tones, something a little more subtle… but in the end, we decided to lean into it.

Finished in Fusion Mineral Paint Bayberry, this deep green brings just the right amount of character while still feeling timeless — especially paired with the warmth of the Antique Walnut legs.

The original hardware was carefully cleaned and restored, and each drawer was conditioned so it’s ready for everyday use.

This set also includes protective glass tops, helping preserve the finish while adding a subtle, elevated look.

Sometimes the right choice is the one that stands out a little.

For months this piece sat in the workshop while I tried to decide what direction to take with it.

Sometimes when we bring a piece home, the vision comes right away. Other times it takes a little time.

This one was the second type.

It sat there for a while as I debated colors, finishes, and what it could become. One day Michelle walked through the shop, looked at the drop leaves, and said:

“What if you could write on the top with chalk?”

That simple idea completely changed the direction of the piece.

The cabinet was refreshed in Fusion Mineral Paint – Eucalyptus, the wood top was finished in Prairie Wheat, and the drop leaves became a chalkboard entertaining surface where you can write drink menus, charcuterie labels, or fun messages for guests.

Sometimes the best ideas in the shop come from a quick comment or a fresh perspective.

This one definitely came from Michelle.

Another fun transformation in the books for Thin Line 29.

Sometimes our projects never make it to the marketplace…

When Michelle and I found this dresser, we immediately fell in love with the curves, the vintage hardware, and the character this piece already had. Pieces like this remind us why we started Thin Line 29 — rescuing well-built furniture and giving it a second life.

After some careful prep and a fresh finish in Fusion Mineral Paint, the original hardware was cleaned and brought back to a warm antique glow that pairs beautifully with the soft, classic color. The details on this piece really came alive again.

Our plan was simple: finish it, stage it, and send it off to a new home.

But sometimes the best homes are closer than we expected.

Our daughter saw the finished dresser and immediately said, “Dad… I need that.” And honestly… we couldn’t say no.

So this one won’t be heading to a buyer — it’s staying in the family. And truthfully, that might be the best outcome of all.

Furniture tells stories, and this one just became part of ours.

Thanks for following along with our projects and supporting what we do at Thin Line 29.

Some pieces surprise us.

When we first found this Stanley “Open Home” cabinet, we weren’t entirely sure what it wanted to be. The layout has the feel of a dresser, but the cabinet door and drawer configuration also make it perfect as a buffet or entryway storage piece.

That’s one of the things we love most about vintage furniture — it was built to last and it can adapt to how people live today.

For this piece we chose Fusion Mineral Paint – Lichen, a soft earthy green that pairs beautifully with warm wood tones. The wood top was carefully revived and sealed with General Finishes topcoat, allowing the natural grain to shine through.

One of our favorite details was the original Stanley hardware. After cleaning and restoring it, the warm brass glow really brought the whole piece together.

These older Stanley pieces are known for their solid construction, thoughtful design, and small details that are hard to find in modern furniture.

Whether it ends up being used as a dresser, buffet, or entryway cabinet, it’s ready for its next chapter.

Sometimes a piece just stops you.

That’s exactly what happened when we came across this Stanley set while sourcing. Yes, the name carries weight — but what really caught our eye was the original hardware. The bail pulls were stunning. Substantial. Timeless. Full of character.

We were in love immediately.

Michelle got to work cleaning the hardware and it revealed the most beautiful antique gold tone. While she was working on them, she casually mentioned that two of the k***s looked a little different.

I heard her.

I just didn’t listen. Go figure.

Fast forward to final assembly…

We realized the previous owner had lost a bail pull at some point and replaced it with k***s. How we missed that detail when we purchased it, we still can’t explain.

Project paused.

We went down the rabbit hole trying to find a matching vintage replacement. If you’ve ever restored older furniture, you know — original hardware is nearly impossible to match exactly.

After a lot of searching, we made the decision to invest in new bail pulls and k***s that would honor the originals. It cost more than we planned, but sometimes you have to protect the integrity of the piece.

The original keyhole and escutcheon (because of course that couldn’t be matched either) were carefully preserved. We painstakingly worked to blend the new Antique English hardware with the remaining original details.

In the end?

We think it came together beautifully.

Not every project is straightforward. Some require pivots, patience, and a little humility.

This one reminded us why we love what we do.

From garage to gorgeous.

This Bassett two-piece dresser set came to us solid and well-built — but dated, dark, and ready for a fresh start.

What we did:

• Removed original hardware
• Thoroughly cleaned and prepped every surface
• Refinished in Cathedral Taupe by Fusion Mineral Paint
• Installed updated Ravinte matte black hardware
• Cleaned, conditioned, and nourished the drawer interiors with Howard’s Feed-N-Wax

We kept what mattered — the strong Bassett construction and dovetail drawers — and updated the look for today’s homes.

The goal wasn’t to erase its character.
It was to elevate it.

Now it’s a neutral, timeless set that works in modern, transitional, or traditional spaces.

At Thin Line 29, we believe good furniture deserves a second life.

Every piece has a story — and this one goes back a bit 🤍

When Michelle and I moved into our home, this piece was the base of a china cabinet I bought for her as a housewarming gift. Solid, well built, and part of our early years in the house, it’s been around for a long time.

Years later, it felt right to give it a new chapter — not changing what it was at its core, but reimagining how it could live on. The result is a refreshed sideboard finished in Cathedral Taupe, paired with a natural wood top sealed in a dead-flat finish, and updated with champagne bronze hardware.

It’s a good reminder of why we enjoy doing this — restoring quality pieces, honoring their history, and letting them move on to be enjoyed again.
