Okay. Many have asked. So here it is. And, there’s SO much more to be said, but we’re giving the synopsis right now, and I’d be happy to sit down and give you the full version over some coffee ☕…‘cause who doesn’t like coffee and stories?! 🤷‍♂️

The short version is that through a number of prayerful encounters and moments, with well-timed conversations and insights all laid out by the Lord, my family and I have been called out of the woodworking world and into full-time ministry as well as into a crazy season of being a part of a church replant–a new work in an historic location: Fishersville Community Church!

And so, for the last nearly-four months, while finishing up some amazing projects with some amazing clients, co-workers, and an “okay” construction boss (, ), I have been settling into my role as the Director of Creative Arts and Groups (i.e. worship, music, production, discipleship, small groups, etc.).

This is, for me and my family, nothing apart from a direct calling on my life from the Lord. The call into ministry is something that has been placed on my heart and in my mind for a very long time, but something that was surrounded by ambiguity–what kind of ministry? Where? How? When? And my prayer had been, for all of these years, that my response, when truly called, would be, “Yes, Lord.” But instead, it was 🤔 “Are you sure, God? Me?? There??? That??? Oof…” 😬 😅

That’s why I’m thankful for the Lord working through so many conversations–especially the ones with my wife. Suffice it to say that through her, lots of prayer, and the myriad of other talks/prayers with pastors, family, and friends, the Lord brought clarity to the situation and I have (finally) submitted to His call on my life.

This is but the beginning. And so, I would ask each of you to be praying for our family, for FCC, and please, please, PLEASE: pray for me. Pray above all for wisdom, for a sensitive heart and mind to the Lord’s leading, and that I would be and remain dependent and obedient to that leading.

Thanks all! And please, don’t hesitate to reach out! This is an incredibly exciting transition for our family, so please join us on this journey! 🎉

✍🏻ANOTHER Contract Signed 🎉

SO excited to have this project!

These clients wanted to find a home with lots of land, and they found it out in the Steeles Tavern area of the Valley.

EXQUISITE old farmhouse with plenty of land, BUT lacking in storage.

Enter White Stag Woodcraft.

The goal was simple: create a design that incorporated sufficient storage and a place to display stuff and oh!—put a TV there! 😆

So here we are: an 8’ tall entertainment center with bookcases and TEN FEET of drawer space 🤯 Also, don’t let the drawing diminish what’s going on with those drawers—each section consists of 12” DEEP drawers that are also 30” WIDE, so yeah. Storage capacity leveled up ✅😎

Here are the deets:
:
Door Style: Hawthorne 5-pc
Custom Color: “Decorator White”
Crown Moulding: Arts & Crafts

Keep following along to see this one pan out🙌🏻🙌🏻

📣 ANOTHER Kitchen Sold 📣

This client moved here to@look after her parents, and in the course of looking for a home, found a small bit of farmland that still big enough that she could raise a horse on it. The down side? The kitchen 🫣

Old school stained plywood fronts and simply pine skeleton. But hey, it’s worked for awhile. Even still she knew it was time for an upgrade.

Enter White Stag Woodcraft. 😎💪🏻

We sat down, talked through her likes and dislikes about her current set up and then made a list of things she’d like to have—both practically and aesthetically, and then we got to designing.

Simple elegance was the name of the game here, and she really liked the looked of stained cabinets. So, with the help of our showroom door samples and color sample blocks, we found the right combination of door style, finish, and layout for her new kitchen.

:
Door Style: Classic Square
Wood Species: Hard Maple
Finish: Burnished

Order has been placed. And now the waiting game!

Be sure to keep checking back to see how this remodel turns out!

🚨MASSIVE step forward today!🚨

Today marks a HUGE milestone for our company as this morning I passed all three VA Contractor’s Exams 📚(VA Portion, General Portion, and Advanced Portion) for my Class A Contractor’s License! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
🥳🥳🥳

The remaining bits are to pass my Specialty Exam (CR-60 “Finish Carpentry”), and then go through the official application and review process.

This process is a huge leap for the legitimacy of our business; as well as for the welfare, protection and care of our clients—a step that’s worth every penny and every hour invested 😁

Thanks to those who have been encouragers, sounding boards, and motivators. We appreciate you all!

Stick around as we continue down this road!

📸 Progress Photo 📸

We LOVE working with live-edge wood and making all sorts of bespoke pieces for our clients, but sometimes, they can create little challenges along the way.

In this example, our clients fell in love with this Ash cookie from and they wanted to turn it into an end table.

SWEET. Can do ✅

Butttttttt we had some concerns and over the functionality of the table given some of the natural “defects” of the piece. But, we quickly hashed out a plan to keep those in plain sight while also being able to use the whole of the table instead of just half.

Fill it with epoxy! 🤷🏻‍♂️😆

All joking aside, we LOVE using clear epoxy resin for these sorts of projects, because once finished, it’ll allow the person to admire the natural beauty, while also having a perfectly flat surface they can utilize.

So, yeah! Just a little appreciation post about our love for the natural aesthetic and adapting to some challenges when working with it 🤷🏻‍♂️🙌🏻🙌🏻

Stay tuned for more updates about this project!

✅ PROJECT COMPLETE ✅

We were SO THRILLED when we were asked to be a part of the renovations taking place at 🥰

This coffee area had been set up with some basic storage capabilities, but quickly found itself overflowing with items and no homes to put them in 😓

Enter White Stag Woodcraft.

We were able to make some simple, but DEEP wall cabinets to give them greater storage. Standard wall cabinets are right at 12” deep, so we made ours a whopping 18”! 🙌🏻🙌🏻

The original cabinet was about 48”H, but there wasn’t enough room to slide their coffee makers underneath, so they crammed them further down the countertop. So, we decided to shorten ours to right at 42” giving enough room to house the coffee machines and create a little better flow of the space as well as a more efficient use of the countertop—or at least a better look since things won’t be as crammed looking anymore 😅

Lastly, they recently moved an existing desk/welcome area cabinet over and repurposed it as a tea section for all the weird tea drinkers. 😵‍💫🤭 So, in turn, instead of tossing the old large cabinet we had just taken down, we hung it over the new tea section to provide even more storage across the board! Boom 💥

So there ya go! Happy to have helped, and we look forward to seeing this renovation move forward!

Keep following along to see more upcoming projects!

I LOVE the versatility of the French Cleat wall 🤩

We operate in a pretty close-quarters environment here at White Stag Woodcraft, which means the majority of the shop has to be mobile or modular.

Larger tools and workbenches generally have casters on them, we have air hose reels that will reach to where we need but are kept tidy after they’re retracted, and we have the beginnings of a pretty neat French Cleat wall that’s already seeing some great usage storing sand paper, saws, our pocket hole maker, and our newest addition: some simple modular paint racks out of 2x4s and some 1” PVC. 😌

Versatility and flexibility is key is this shop—especially with having our newest “big boy purchase” taking up a large chunk of our floor space—lookin’ at you, tablesaw 👀 But hey, even that’s on a mobile base 🙌🏻🙌🏻

I know this is somewhat a random post, but I’ve come to really appreciate the constant reconfiguring of our shop to@lake room for the necessary things as we keep growing! So thank YOU for helping us do that, and keep checking back for more upcoming projects!

📣Tool Shout-Out 📣

There are times when I wonder if something is worth mentioning or posting about, and much of the time I pass on it caaaaaause work. Lol!

But THIS lil’ guy has been an absolute beast and it’s worth mentioning. I’m sure someday I’ll upgrade to a system that’s a little more exact or efficient, but this little $100 framing circular saw from DeWalt (that I got for FREE with my ORIGINAL tool bundle purchase—going on 10 years ago—has been the workhorse of my shop on a lot of days.

This guy has ripped through some tough lumber customers: White Oak, Hard Maple, White Ash (seen here), Hickory, Purple Heart, and even Pecan early on. If you look up some of those ratings on the Janka Hardness scale, this lil’ fella has been all the way to 2090 with the P.H. taking it up there and then we only come down slightly to 1820 with Pecan and Hickory 🤯

So, just wanted to give a little shout-out to this little inanimate guy who doesn’t care at all—and can’t care—for doing a GREAT JOB. Who’s a good boy? 🥰🤪

Okay, you can now return to your scrolling…

🚚 Delivery Dayyyy 🚚

I know I said Sunday, but ya know, these people urgently needed a place to set their coffee mugs, so we needed to make that happen! 🤣☕️

SO. We loaded it all up, and trucked it down to RVA, and white-gloved it into their home……and by “white-gloved” I mean I had one of the clients help me carry stuff. 😅

NEVERTHELESS, they’re in, and they look fantastic! 🤩🤩🤩

It’s always a nice feeling when clients have both a confidence in what you do, placing their trust in your abilities, and then also have an appreciation for the work that’s done—makes me feel good 🥰

Incidentally, in the second pic, you’ll notice an early production from WSW that was made and gifted to these clients for Christmas during their first year of marriage 😌

Anywho, enough sappy stuff—onward to other projects!!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻

If you’re liking what we’re producing or even just the silly content, go ahead and give us a LIKE and/or FOLLOW on Instagram and Facebook! We really appreciate it, and SHARE any content you think is worth sharing 🤷🏻‍♂️🙌🏻

✅ Project Completed ✅

This build has been a blast! It brought with it new challenges, lots of design options to present to the clients, .o.sutton and , and mostly….fun!

Here we have a nice round coffee river table and two walnut end tables made from walnut supplied by my friends at

The epoxy resin was created with and a combination of their “Cambridge Blue” and “Peacock Green” metallic powder tints. And for those of you following along at home, if you guessed that the clients would pick Option #2 from our poll—you were right!

We capped it all off with one of my favorite finishes: “Pure” Oil Plus 2C. It REALLY brings out the warmth and richness of that walnut 🤗🥰

The bases for the end table came from the clients who picked out something from an Etsy supplier, but the coffee table base came from a new friend, Nick, and his new local start-up called Little Mountain Metalworks—not even on Instagram yet! 😅 He did a great job and we have more things coming from him for near-future projects!

All-in-all, this build put a smile on my face, but more importantly the clients are super happy!

🚚 Delivery day to Richmond, VA is set for Sunday, so be sure to check back and see these in their rightful place: the clients’s home!

🚚 DELIVERY DAY 🚚

Just a few cabinets got delivered today 😅

SO excited to finally have these in our hands!

This job site still isn’t ready for install, but fortunately, our client has space to store these to where they’re completely protected until the time is right 🙌🏻🙌🏻

Keep checking back for updates for when this install goes down!

There’s a LOT happening here at White Stag Woodcraft and we’re SUPER excited about it all!

Client #1: Needs a Mudroom/Welcome Center setup for their new home that was completed only months ago. With 9’ ceilings this is going to be gorgeous 🤩

Client #2: Has THREE major projects/upgrades needing to be done in their home including an entertainment center, a remodel of their master closet, and an office/flex space in bed of some built-ins with a Murphy Bed to cap it all off! 🛏️

Client #3: a couple with four kiddos that all play sports and are in desperate need of storage solutions and a Mudroom/Laundry Room upgrade ⏫️

Each of these area unique spaces and since they’ve all taken advantage of our Design Services, we’re currently working through functionality and aesthetics and helping turn our clients’ visions into reality!

Nothing is set in stone, as of yet, but we were so excited with these potential projects we just HAD to share! 😍😍😍

Stay tuned for more updates as we go along!
