Earlier this week I dialed in the color on this countertop. Then I sprayed a couple coats of shellac to lock in that color. Next, I’ll spend a week building up a dozen or so layers of hand rubbed poly. The finished product will be silky smooth and very durable.

Auxiliary fence engaged! It’s not fancy. Just two laminated sheets of MDF. But i drilled & tapped the standard fence so the MDF bolts directly to the machine. It’s rock solid and gives me a full 24” of fence height to keep big pieces square as I joint them.

Also… yes, that is an old canoe being used to hold task lights. Don’t you have a canoe light fixture in your shop?

Working on a 76x42” counter top next week. Sub assemblies are done and rough cut to size. I need to add an auxiliary fence to my jointer first so it can better handle the height of the two sub assemblies. Stay tuned!

I made the first version of this little step stool nearly a decade ago now. A client requested it for easier access to their hot tub. For raw pine, I’d say it held up pretty good! Dimensions are slightly different on the new version, but the basic design is unchanged. Version #2 is headed out today... and destined for the hot tub! @ Kirchhoff Tables

Over the last few weeks I’ve been giving this 19th century English pub chair a bit of a makeover. It was in rough shape when I got hold of it. But the pieces were all there and in relatively good condition - although every single joint had failed. Now, after some minor repairs, a reglue, and a refreshed finish, the chair should last another 100 years! @ Kirchhoff Tables

This is a late 1800’s English pub chair (I think). Pretty sure the wood is elm. Definitely hand made with terminated tapered tenons and hide glue. All of which point towards that era. The chair’s design also fits.

The glue up was complicated! Nothing is symmetrical on this chair! Which made clamping a challenge. Based on the age though, it makes me wonder if it was ever symmetrical!

Busy day in the shop with my brother! Delivered a dining table & bench commission this morning. Spent the afternoon working on stair tread & riser skins. Then Dan put down a base coat of shellac on a salvaged pecan table top. Capped it all off with some good scotch! @ Kirchhoff Tables
