Freedom! That’s what I’m experiencing lately. Let me tell you, there is freedom in downsizing. When we moved to Jax we were in a hurry to find a house and we needed to be in the right school district. The house we rented, while beautiful and in a great neighborhood, was just too big for my liking. Recently our lease was up and we wanted something smaller so we decided to rent a townhouse. It’s still in the same area, maybe a mile or so from the other house.
Downsizing is a challenge. There are things you have to get rid of either by selling or donating, but I feel so much better having purged a lot of stuff. Our downstairs area is pretty much put away and organized, although I still have some things to hang up. I still have the kid’s room and the guest room to do and I’m sure I’ll be getting rid of more as I sort through everything.
Growing up military and having been a navy wife for the past 20+ years I do tend to get excited during the whole move process. It’s a chance to start over and redecorate and a chance to reassess your belongings. As soon as I know the floor plan I start planning in my mind, researching, and making notes as to where everything goes.
Anyway, even though this is a rental I still want to make it ours. The owner gave us permission to make a few changes and even bought new flooring for the kitchen so that we could lay new floor as the old floor was in terrible shape. The only other change we’ve made to the actual house is repainting the k***s in the kitchen and wow did that make a difference! I’m still going to paint the bathroom k***s as well. I’ve included a few before and after just for fun. Oh, one more thing... check out the awesome rolling pantry shelf that my hubby made for me! It saves a bunch of cabinet space too!
