Before and after of the barn doors. Technically, this is only round one for the DIY barn doors. I need to complete another set because they should be wider. These doors are 24 inches and they should have been 26-27 inches. Regardless, I loved how these turned out. I hate closet doors because they never give full access to the doorway. Barn doors allow for a wide opening that doesn’t get in the way. I’ll be sure to update this summer when I make the second set. I may make some minor changes to perfect the design. Standard barn doors are 36 inches. If you need a different size, get ready to pay…a lot. I found that these were fairly easy to make with plywood, 1 by 4 boards, wood glue, a nail gun and some paint. If you need a custom size, I’d recommend DIY-ing, if you have the tools. (Saw, clamps, etc.). It’s totally worth it. These were about $100 total and that’s only because lumber costs are higher. Custom doors on Etsy run about $500+.
The barn door hardware was an additional $80 on Amazon. If I had to order hardware again, I’d get it from an American company. The directions for mine were hard to understand and missing some key measurement details, which may have been due to a language barrier.

My coffee table project is now complete. This one is not for sale and will be added to my living room. I originally bought it for $10 dollars. Other materials cost around $30 dollars. The original was painted in a chalky white primer with many scratches. The top was not functional and attracted a lot of dirt. I sanded & repainted the bottom using Simply White by . The top was replaced with pine boards, sanded and stained in special walnut.

Phew. It’s been a little bit, but I was never gone. I had to catch up with life. Now I have, and I am putting the finishing touches on this guy before it hits the Etsy shop. Here’s the Before and after 😘.

Dog Bowl Shelf

1. Use an old IKEA or Walmart shelf. This one is made of particle board. It is easier to cut with the saw than wood.

2. Trace the outside of the bottom of the bowl and the top of the bowl against the shelf. You’ll have two circles, one inside the other.

3. Cut in between the two circles with a Jig Saw. Do the best you can. They most likely won’t be even, but the bowls will cover the imperfections.

4. Sand the imperfections on the shelf and circle cut area.

5. Paint and finish the shelf. I used chalk paint because of the material of the shelf (particle board). Finish with a strong polyurethane. Since dogs drip water as they drink, a stronger finish to protect the shelf is necessary.

6. Let dry and hang the shelf. Use a level. Make sure to hang it on the studs of the wall because the bowls will be heavy when filled.

New desk looks perfect in the room. I couldn’t find one that was the right size, so I made one instead. The top is pine stained with special walnut. The bottom is a painted black with a semi-gloss finish. The top is also finished in semi-gloss, BUT I applied several THIN layers to avoid the glossy look on the top.
Bottom: The leg squares are 2 by 4’s and the “X’s” are 1 by 2’s. The support leg is a 4 by 4. All of which were lingering in my garage. I just had to cut, sand and paint.

Finished the 1920’s sideboard!

After stripping, sanding and priming, I painted the piece in Simply White, by Benjamin Moore.

I stained the top in special walnut, and sealed with a semi-gloss poly. I didn’t want a high-glossed look, but it’s never a good idea to go with a matte finish in the kitchen. It’s the least durable.

I spray painted the hardware silver to match my kitchen cabinet hardware.
I bought this five foot long sideboard for all of $20. I am so excited for more storage and I love how it turned out! It fits perfectly in the space. Almost as if I was meant to find it. Now to fill and decorate it ❤️.

That took a while! I think there were several reasons.

A. Color choice. Over 30 messages from those interested needed black and not navy. Sticking to colors people feel “safe” with makes a difference. However, I still don’t regret using navy because I really loved it and so did the buyer.

B. Price. The price of this chair, or rather all buffalo check chairs are higher. Now, I know why. I had never upholstered with plaid prints before. It’s really hard! It requires so much more time because you have to make sure the staples aren’t pulling the plaid unevenly. I’ve learned even machines at large manufacturers have this issue. So in case you’re ever wondering why it’s so much more from any store or from a , that’s why!

C. Timing. Apparently, we are all broke at the same time. I listed this at some of the worst financial times of the year! Now I know when it’s best to introduce and list pieces and when it’s a total waste of time.
I also believe that in some cases it’s just a matter of finding the right person and that can take a while. I’m so happy this sold to a woman who loved the chair and is designing her new apartment with pops of navy, making her the .

Hey 👋🏼 there. I know it’s been a while. Wrapping up my renovation.

A little hint, always look to TW PERRY for Reno stuff first if it’s in your area. Half the price of Home Depot for doors, trim, lumber, etc. They deliver or you can pre-order & pick up. The staff is friendly and helpful. Last but not least, you are not competing with massive crowds or asking advice from uninformed employees. They are all well-trained contractors.

I just bought 200 linear feet of wide trim and quarter round that would have cost $400 dollars at Home Depot and even more at Lowe’s. I spent $250 (including tax) and picked up.

Two trained contractors cut and loaded it into my car. There were no crowds. No lines. 👌🏻

I know I’ve been MIA. Working on a house renovation 🙂.

For those of you considering remodeling, Labor Day is one of the best times to look for materials because of the sales. Just yesterday, on my way to pick up tile that was 99 cents a square foot, I ended up buying tile that looked almost exactly the same for 78 cents a square foot. 💰

Most sales run until the 12th, and my best advice is get offline and actually walk into the store. Those are where you will find clearance prices, as most stores are trying to relinquish old inventory.

As for the chairs, give me about a month to get things moved and reorganized. Pending orders are beginning now. 🙃
