It has come to a point where I can no longer remain silent, not only for myself but for the sake of other vendors who may be facing similar challenges. Especially since I was approached again recently being slandered.

In January, my company supplied raw wood stair treads and stair ends to Floor Xpo LLC for a project. Ordered by Christie Witherspoon, whose title keep changing so now sure what to call her sorry, when this happen she was co-owner. The materials were delivered to the job site, by us at no extra fee. Then it was cut, installed, and stained by their team, including one tread that had to be remade due to their installation error. They had proceeded with staining and finishing the materials without obtaining customer approval, yet somehow blamed us for all issues. Even though we had nothing to do with installation, stain or finish. I made it clear that I was willing to remake the pieces, however I did not agree to do so free of charge, as the problem was not caused by us.

To put things into perspective, large retailers like Home Depot, Lowe’s, and Floor & Decor do not accept returns for materials that have been installed, used, or cut incorrectly due to installer error. Or stained improperly. This is a standard business practice across the industry. However, Floor Xpo LLC has refused to pay us, despite being paid for our materials by Installation Made Easy — the installation company contracted by Floor & Decor. I have confirmed this through direct communication with their representative, Jessica, who informed me that Floor Xpo LLC was paid for our materials in April. She made sure to tell me several times during our call that Floor Xpo was paid for Our materials.

Not only has Floor Xpo LLC failed to pay us for the materials we provided, but they also misrepresented the situation to the customer, claiming they had not been paid by Installation Made Easy, even after the had been paid, I know this because the customer and I spoke. Furthermore, they have requested refunds for materials without returning them. Even while they were ghosting our attempts to contact them.
They have also gone so far as to tarnish our reputation with both customers and other contractors. I have been approached by multiple sources who informed me of these slanderous claims, which only adds to the unethical business practices at play. Again, I was recently approached again, and this is why I can no longer keep quiet.

For months, I attempted to resolve this matter amicably, only to be met with excuses, deflections, and even personal attacks. At one point, I was told I was “un-Christian” for seeking payment, that basically God approved her not to pay us. In only a few hours after posting an honest review about my experience, I received a threatening phone call from Michael at 7 a.m., threatening me to remove the review within 24 hours or “I would regret it”. When I refused to comply, I was subsequently blocked from their business page, removing my review. It’s disheartening to see that they continue to get networking associates to post numerous fake reviews to mask their poor business practices, while blocking upset customers and vendors.

I have tried to handle this situation with professionalism and patience, but after nine months of non-payment and unacceptable behavior, I can no longer stay silent. This is not just about $2,200, this is about standing up against unethical business practices that are harming vendors like myself and many others.

I urge anyone considering doing business with Floor Xpo LLC to ensure full payment is received upfront and to carefully inspect the materials you received. When I have that proof I’ll be posting it too. My experience is Not an isolated incident, and I feel compelled to share this to protect others from facing similar treatment.

For those who may question whether this is the right approach, I have not only tried several times and ways to get this handled. And was ghosted, even while working a job together. I have also sought forgiveness for any perceived wrongdoing. However, I believe it is important to speak out and ensure transparency for the sake of the community. And I’ll be extra honest here, I do highly suspect several of the other vendors can’t stand up for themselves as they are not here legally. And that Floor Xpo does this on purpose.

So it's Construction Tip Tuesday again

Sorry so late today! Today's tip is Get It In Writing!

Yes, it seems so simple, but we all often forget it. The contractor seems so nice, and seems to know a lot. They have answered all my calls and messages so quick. They seem so nice and honest.

But, that is where a lot of friends, businesses, partners and more get into trouble. Things happen, a hurricane tears up a building. Things happen.

Life is easier if everything is in writing. Time lines can still have issues for one reason or another. But materials, prices and such should all be in writing and should have no reason to change from when you sign the contract til the end.

If you for some reason or another have a change, get it in writing.
If you ask for a price on the change, get it in writing.
If you pick a specific brand, color, texture, etc, get it in writing.
If you want a copy of their warranty, get it in writing.
If there are specific instructions on how to care for something, get it in writing.
If you do have an issue, and they say they will fix it, get it in writing.

See the trend here.

Life happens, it just does. If everything is in writing, you don't have to worry. Want to add on to the job, sure thing. The next questions is almost Always how much. Contractor says a few hundred dollars. Next thing you know you bill shows up and it's $1,200. That's not a few hundred to a lot of people. Now you are arguing with the contractor. If you have it in writing before the work is done, no issues. You agreed on the price, tadaa no issues.

If this is your normal practice and someone tries to talk to you of it, Don't. No matter how nice they seem, there is still a possibility something could go wrong. Even if no one meant for it to happen. Contractor has 3 jobs going on at once, they forgot to note it and it's missed. Again life happens, if it's in writing you can have a check list with that.

I can give you a ton of examples, we are human. Most contractors do it on accident. Yet, there are some that don't, they actually bank on you not having it in writing. So just protect yourself.

I hope this helps, and I will see you here next week for another contractor tip. I know we are doing the basics, but the more odd and scary ones are coming up.

So, I guess I need to explain things and I’m not even sure why this has to be said but here we are.

If we deliver raw materials to you. If you cut them, they are yours. If you cut them, install them, stain them and put finish on them. They are Really yours!

Meaning you must pay for them and there is no returning them. They belong to you. Weather or not you or your customer like them. They are no longer sellable items for us so They Are Yours.

Yes we do accept returns! You must bring them back in the original condition as you picked them up. Return what you like, we’ll only refund what we receive, so if it’s short material we don’t refund on product we don’t get back. And product must be returned in 90 days.

We do Not refund product we don’t receive back.

You pick up materials you must returned materials for refund. We deliver materials you must return materials.

I am no sure why I have to post this, and why even contractors think this the normal policies don’t apply to them. However this is the industry standard.
