5 things a designer considers BEFORE specifying tile.
That gorgeous tile you saved on Pinterest? 😍
There’s a lot more that goes into specifying it than simply loving how it looks.
When I’m selecting tile for a project, I’m looking at the whole picture.
How will it work with the cabinetry?
How does the scale work in the space?
What happens when we change the grout and how will the light affect it?
Is it the right material for how the space will actually be used?
And most importantly… does it belong in THIS home?
Because a tile can be beautiful on its own and still be completely wrong for a particular space.
That’s the fun part of design for me, taking all of those little details into consideration and pulling them together into something that feels effortless when you see the finished room.
Which is exactly why I don’t start with “What tile do you like?”
I start with the design.
Then the tile has a job to do. ✨
